Healer
Denebola learned how to heal others in her home clan, but she never had any intention of staying there. She traveled the world for a short time, visiting other clans in other flights, learning their healing styles, but it didn't take long before she decided she had learned everything there was to learn. She was an expert in every last thing, and of course she was the one to know that best. She continued to travel the world, this time offering her healing to any with both the need and the coin, and she had something very good going. Her confidence, while bordering on arrogance, was not unfounded; she truly was one of the best healers out there.

And then came Polaris.
When she met Polaris, she was reluctant to settle down in one place, but Polaris' silver tongue swayed her eventually. Polaris promised riches untold, fame and fortune and a place at the head of Polaris's most closely guarded dream. It sounded like a fantasy, but it also sounded like Polaris had a solid plan. Denebola joined the Triangulum group of the Akasha Stratum: a group of fighters, Polaris' personal guard, meant to protect the budding kingdom at all costs. The group may be led by Arcturus, but Denebola was the first member, and she doesn't hesitate to blackmail her superior. Both of the other members of the Triangulum owe her many favors.

Erfurt
For a time, the Akasha Court resided in the home of the Troupe of the North Wind, and there Denebola met a vain, handsome dragon named Erfurt. His arrogance was as great as hers, if not more, and their wits were a perfect match. At first, it seemed as though they hated one another; the two of them could never be in the same room without getting into an argument or trying to compete, but Denebola knew as soon as she met him that Erfurt was her equal in everything but the medicinal skill she had practiced her whole life. It surprised everybody else, but not her, when they decided that their feelings were closer to love than hate.

The Triangulum
Denebola loves the Triangulum like her own family. With their recent adoption of young Tad, she has had a chance to dote on someone like never before. The Triangulum feels even more like a group she cares about, and while Denebola may be planning her departure from Polaris before it gets too dangerous to leave, she's slowly coming to realize that she can't leave without the family she's been building.

Discovery
Denebola's relationship with Erfurt isn't technically allowed under Polaris's strict rules. When Spica discovered it, Denebola came very close to being exposed. She challenged him to think about his own wants, rather than his loyalty to Polaris; did he want to betray her and sacrifice the camaraderie of the whole Triangulum? But his loyalty to Polaris was strong, and she never knew for a fact that it would work.

In fact, it worked better than she could have dreamed. Spica never told, and in fact seemed to reconsider many parts of his life and behavior. He was no longer the impossibly loyal ghost of Polaris; he was someone who considered his own wants and needs ahead of the needs of the Akasha Court. In her own way, Denebola was proud; she had been the one to bring this on. Their relationship only improved after that; they both made efforts to get to know one another better.

Arcturus was a harder sell. He wasn't necessarily perfectly loyal to Polaris, but he was much more concerned with the betrayal than Spica had been. In his mind, the Triangulum were a tight-knit family, and Denebola's outside relationship put that at risk. If Polaris found out they hid this secret, the whole group would be punished for the transgressions of a single member. Denebola challenged him like she had challenged Spica, but Arcturus wasn't swayed.

So Denebola turned to blackmail. She knows many secrets about all of the members of the Court, but the Triangulum especially. She put some of Arcturus's secrets on the table: his relationship with Spica, while not technically against the rules, isn't something he wants shared. His still-present urge to seek out his Charge could be seen as betrayal. The fact that someday his fire will burn out, and he'll be left a husk of himself. These, and more, are secrets Denebola leveraged against him. They may be a family, but Denebola always puts herself first.

Erfurt
Erfurt is the only dragon in Sornieth who Denebola views as an equal. They are equally as vain, equally as stubborn, and equally as enamored with the other. Denebola is taking a massive risk having a relationship with him even after Polaris expressly forbade such a thing, but she isn't concerned with whether or not Polaris will allow it; this life belongs to her. She will chase her own happiness.

Erfurt and Denebola see one another much less often now that the Akasha Court has left Wind lands, but they are still in contact. It's riskier, now, but Denebola has always loved to gamble.

Arcturus
Denebola would have expected her blackmail to be met with tension, as most dragons would react, but Arcturus is unlike most dragons. Rather than viewing it as threatening, or insubordinate, he was impressed with her initiative and the fact that she had gathered that information, and he told her so.

They're family. Arcturus accepts that sometimes Denebola has to put herself above the family, and Denebola has never experienced that sort of acceptance. She admires Arcturus even more in the wake of it.

Spica
Spica often comes to Denebola for advice. She finds his presence comforting; he's quiet, and nearly invisible, and even though that could be a threat she trusts him enough to know that he won't try to assassinate her. His years of loneliness mean that he never really learned how to interact with other dragons, and Denebola is happy to assist. He trades the secrets of other dragons for her advice; everybody wins in this situation.

He's a sweet dragon, when you make the effort to get to know him. He understands Denebola in a way she hadn't expected to find with Polaris.

Tad
Denebola loves Tad more than her own children. Part of the reason for this is distance: Tad is always nearby, and her own children are scattered across Sornieth. Part of it is Tad's mischievous nature, and their inherent charm. Denebola loves to teach them, because they pick up on things so quickly.

Tad is the final symbol the Triangulum needed to recognize that they are, as a group, a true family. The three of them alone were able to pretend only Polaris brought them together; with the addition of Tad to their group, they understand that they are more than the dragons Polaris gathered.

"What's a kingdom without a little rebellion?"
arcaneshieldr.png

Polaris
Denebola has little to no respect for Polaris. She joined the Court for the fame, the riches, the access to status. Polaris is a driven dragon, with an interesting dream, but Denebola has no need for them in her future. Someday, she's going to leave Polaris behind, because she got what she wanted, and Polaris has nothing left to give her.

Denebola's small acts of rebellion are meant to show the other members of the Court that they don't have to follow Polaris forever. So far, she hasn't been successful in convincing anybody but the Triangulum.
