BIG as he is, it doesn't take long to figure out Gilliflower never really ... grew up, as one usually does. He has an unusual glassiness to his gaze, a softness of mannerism and voice that gives him a fey quality. He speaks in short sentences made up of monosyllabic words -- should he speak at all -- but hum a baseline and he'll be quick to fill the air with songs in his high, childlike singing voice.

Gilliflower is of no blood relation to any in the Orchard, though he's spent his whole life among the apple and potash peach trees. Selby calls him her little sapling, while most others simply call him Gilly. He's as devoted to She Who Walks Between the Boughs as any of his Orchard compatriots. There's a way he talks about Her that seems to imply he's seen Her with his own eyes, but no one's ever been able to get a story from him if that's so.

Gilly usually just helps Veltune with whatever needs doing around the Orchard, but when she's not too busy or has no immediate need of his help, Gilly spends his time weaving baskets and making poppets out of discarded apple branches of appropriate size. Occasionally, Patrask or some other representative from the Creche will bring a gaggle of curious youngsters in, which is usually the only time the denizens of the Creche are truly quiet and focused outside of bedtime, as Gilly leads them all in a contemplative basket-weaving workshop. 		xxxxxxxxxx
