Biography

| EMIR | [♫] Sacrifice
{ Mage | He/Him | Gay }

Once, long ago, a young boy lived in a grand manor. He had many lovely toys to play with, ate delicious food every day, and could go wherever he wished whenever he pleased—but, still, he was very lonely.

From birth, he had been cursed with a terrible power. Everyone he looked upon would be turned immediately to stone. He turned his mother and father to stone, and then his servants, and then even the animals that lived nearby, so that, the older he grew, the lonelier he became, until there was no one left but himself and the still, silent statues he had created. To ensure that he never harmed another living creature, he covered his eyes with black cloth and locked himself away for many years.

But one day, a band of travelers came calling. They were weary from their journey and begged to be given shelter for the night. The young boy, soft of heart and hungry for the companionship of others, obliged. In return for his hospitality, the travelers told him stories of the outside world.

From them, he learned of a good man with great magic, who was helping people all across the continent. He could do anything, they claimed, and the young boy’s heart swelled with joy. As luck would have it, one of the travelers knew the man personally. They were from the same town, and he gladly gave the young boy the man’s address. The young boy, overcome with emotion, wrote to the man that very night, begging for his assistance in a matter most grave. If anyone could cure him of his curse, surely it was this man.

So it came to pass that Emir met Nero, Light, and Kana, and their fates, now inseparable, led them into the den of the Shade.

How Emir ended up in Feldspar territory is another matter entirely. When he awoke, he was alone again, far, far away from where he and his friends had confronted their enemies. He was unharmed, but there was a heaviness in his heart that he had not felt for eons. He searched for his lost friends desperately, until his legs gave out beneath him and he thought he would die of loneliness.

Then his old companion, Light, appeared. Now reunited with a familiar face, Emir’s hope was bolstered. Though Light had no recollection of their battle against the Shade, if he was alive, it stood to reason, so, too, must be Nero and Kana. Together, the pair set out in pursuit of their comrades once more, and their search brought them to the bustling village of Feldspar Proper, nestled in the westernmost reaches of the Sunbeam Ruins' southern mountains. It was a town famous for its philanthropy—as well as for its wealth of information. They would find sanctuary here and perhaps some clue to their friends’ whereabouts.

Upon their arrival, however, they found not friend but foe: Devolo, an agent of the Shade who, along with his twin brother, Pavolo, Emir had sacrificed himself to in order to save his friends. Blinded by righteous anger, Emir lashed out, and he and Devolo clashed in the village square.

Dreamweaver was able to calm Emir’s rage with an aura of soothing starlight, and, tearfully, Emir told them everything—of his awful affliction; of his long and unbearable loneliness; of brave Nero and his shade-sick daughter, Yuna; of stubborn, undyingly loyal Kana; of his own sister, buried deep beneath the manor, and the power he took from her to aid their cause; and finally of Devolo and Pavolo, who, at the last second, betrayed them all and revealed themselves as the Shade’s puppets.

The founders sympathized greatly with Emir’s plight, and so they welcomed him warmly into their clan. It has been many long months since then, and Emir has heard nothing of his friends—but he believes, with all his heart, that they will be together again someday. Until then, he will wait and hone his magic.

Next time, they won’t lose.
