A childhood friend of Keiko, Souma's name means "suddenly true."

He fell in love with Keiko at a young age with another dragon named Tsubasa who he considers as his rival.

He loves to be part of something and especially in a social circle, which he often tries to include Keiko in.

He isn't greatly known for being the best at fighting, heck, he didn't even want to fight but just choosing to watch in the sidelines was fine for him.

He deeply treasures his pearl the same way he treasures Keiko in his heart. But when he had lost his pearl when he was a hatchling and soon lost his identity it was Keiko who helped him find his pearl.

Ever since that day, he wanted to repay Keiko of that debt he owed her, and his love and affection for her increased by the day. To repay that debt he did what no pearlcatcher could do and that was to fight without backing down to help Keiko in her goal to be a great healer.

He is extremely annoyed with Tsubasa and often gossips about him to a point where he slanders his reputation, but to his dismay Keiko disapproves of this habit of his. But what could she do? It was in his nature to do so as a pearlcatcher.

His new love interest and mate is Ella a daughter of his previous love, Keiko. keiko is happy for her daughter, but Tsubasa is a different story. Souma finds this marriage beneficial for his side since he can use it to annoy Tsubasa tremendously, but nonetheless he does love Ella just that he loves annoying Tsubasa even more.
