Biography
N A M E - The misadventure of a brother and his sister
From a young age, this young snapper harbored an intense curiosity and appreciation for the world around him. He longed to hear stories from times past and often pestered his parents and the clan's lore-keepers for hours on end. As soon as they began to tell their stories, he was silent and rapt. In the days after he hatched, he and his siblings were told of the legend of the Pooka, a malicious faerie known for appearing during the Riot of Rot, who would lure unsuspecting dragons out of their lairs for his own amusement. These dragons rarely returned from their misadventures when led astray by the Pooka, and NAME's dreams were filled with the shadowy figure in the nights after the Pooka's tale was told.
A short time later, while NAME was still a hatchling who had yet to mature, spring arrived on the doorstep of the Shifting Expanse. The young male snapper took great delight in playing outside of the clan's warren of caves. His sister SNAME was with him one morning when the pair had just discovered a small cactus pushing its way through the cracked soil of the Shifting Expanse. Although the Pooka was infamous for appearing during the celebration of the Plague flight, on this day a particularly clever faerie appeared before the two young snappers in the guise of a Kelpie. NAME had always desired to have a familiar of his own and seized upon the chance to begin bonding with what he mistook to be a friendly beast. The Pooka knew then that he had found a foolish hatchling that would be easy to lure away from it's lair…. |
Though his sister begged him to return to the safety of their den, her warnings fell upon deaf ears. NAME's curiosity was too great, and he had already begun to follow the Pooka away from the borders of their clan's lair. In a panic, his sister rushed after him, hoping that she might protect him. The warmth they had come to associate with the scorching heat of the Shifting Expanse slowly faded away, and things began to look less familiar as they neared the Tangled Wood… NAME's excitement overshadowed any fear that might have arisen in the back of his mind and he continued to pursue the Kelpie farther and farther away from the Stormcatcher's domain.
After hours of travel, the Pooka had successfully led the two young Snappers into the domain of the Unseelie Court. It was within the Tangled Wood that a small band of faeries had taken up residence. In the eyes of dragons, the faeries appeared in the forms of various beasts known to inhabit Sornieth. All around them the young Snappers envisioned Dunhoof, Maren, Serthis, Harpies and Centaurs. Among the shadows of the Tangled Wood, the Kelpie-disguised Pooka quickly slipped away, snickering to himself at the state in which he was leaving his victims.
_______________ |
One fateful morning his sister discovered the skull of a Fae and realized that she and her brother would not be servants forever… In a moment of despair she seized upon several scrolls stored within the Harpy's library, hoping that she might discover a spell that would allow the pair to escape their doom. Meanwhile her brother tried in frustration to devise a trap that he hoped would contain the Harpy for enough time to allow them to sneak away from their captor.
Had the two been alone, they likely would have been doomed. Fortune smiled upon them when NAME's sister discovered that she had seized a scroll that contained a spell for prolonging youth. Their captor often used the spell to replace young hatchlings with changelings so that their parents would not noticed their children's absence. One fateful night, she and her brother read the spell aloud together, hoping that the small amount of magic might change their fate.
As days continued to pass, both NAME and his sister noticed that their bodies had ceased growing, their wings were no longer stretching wider with each day, and their bones had stopped growing as well. Yet the magical energies that all dragons across Sornieth harbored within their bodies did not cease to grow. In time, NAME was able to harness the power manifesting within him. In a moment of sheer bravery, he unleashed a bolt of lightning upon their captor. As the electricity traveled through the Harpy's body, her muscles seized and she fell to the ground, paralyzed. In haste, he rushed to his sister's side and the two rushed to flee from the Unseelie Court. NAME's newfound power came to their aid several times, and they escaped the Shadowbinder's domain, leaving several paralyzed by his lightning in their wake. |

The young brother and sister ran for several days and nights without stopping to rest. Though exhaustion wracked their bodies, their fear of being recaptured was too great, so they traveled onwards. When at last their bodies could carry them no further, they fell upon the ground within the Starwood Strand, far to the west of their captor's domain. Though they were fortunate to have escaped with their lives, in time NAME and SNAME discovered that the spell they had used to avoid being eaten had also imprisoned them in their hatchling-sized bodies forevermore... |
