Biography

married to maelon

check maelon's bio for starter lore

He's sitting in front of the flap of the tent again. Silvery magic shimmers off the makeshift mirror as he fusses at his cheek feathers, bent from sleeping in an awkward position the night before.

She’s laying on her side on their cot, watching him go about his morning routine. She hadn’t the heart to move his head last night from where it rested, laid so comfortably on the soft mauve feathers of her chest. The faint whiff of alcohol, Bert’s Whiskey, fanned on her face as he snored, soft whistling escaping his throat in his sleep. She wished he was still laying there, on her chest. He always looked so peaceful as she gently slipped her fingers in the fur on his crest, traced the outlines of the gembond on his cheek and neck.

Still, now he pays the price for his comfort as he grows more agitated in bending the offending feathers back into shape. It’s safe to say the shaft has broken and likely won’t be the same… She can’t find it in herself to feel guilty about it, as much as she probably should.

Instead of Maelon, it’s Cocoa nestled into her chest now. He purrs softly as Teleri massages the back of his ears. When she finishes, he lazily watches his father micromanage his feathers, failing to preen them in an acceptable manner.

Scoffing indignantly, he remarks, spinning as he begins talking, “After all that money I spent--” He cuts himself off when he sees Teleri, and the wet stain on the pillow beside her head. Her eyes are still watery as he rushes to her side, hushing her (even though she hasn’t said a word). His voice is a tender whisper, worried, as he asks, “What is it?” The pain in her eyes rips his heart apart as the coarse pad of his thumb swipes the moisture away still sticking to the gembond on her cheek.

She places her hand over his, holding him close as he cradles her. She turns her head and kisses his palm, the scent of his freshly applied cologne overwhelming. “I miss them,” she whispers.

Maelon leans down and presses his forehead to hers. The couple close their eyes as their antennae brush, Teleri’s grief and Maelon’s sorrow coalescing in their embrace. “I miss them too,” Maelon assures her. Teleri’s sob wracks them both as her chest heaves with a grief she thought she had buried long ago.

As Teleri heaves, she recoils as she feels sharp claws graze the side of her face. Both skydancers look over at surprise to see Cocoa staring wide-eyed at Teleri, his paw outstretched with claws extended. They stare at each other for a beat. When Cocoa makes a swipe at her face again, Teleri stutters, weakly putting up her hand to defend herself from this ceaseless onslaught.

“I-I, Cocoa, nooooo!” Teleri moans quietly, her sobs derailing into hapless chuckles as she pushes the cat’s paws away. The offending cat chirps in response as he pauses for a moment, reaching his claws out again for another swipe. Maelon and Teleri both fall into laughter as Maelon picks up Cocoa, who proceeds to chew on his hand, clearly looking to play. Teleri is laughing so hard she starts coughing, the sobriety of the moment ruined by one fluffy nuisance.

“Are you ok?” Maelon laughs.

“I-I’m fine,” his wife responds, waving him off as she puts her hand on the ground, preparing to finally get out of bed.
