No one is quite sure how Kuja became one of the Clan Warriors. Born into the clan, he was always a pretty little thing as a Hatchling, but he hid his growing strength well from the adults. He was always able to wrestle down the other Hatchlings whenever they did challenge him, and could look sweet and innocent if they complained to the adults. Kuja has also always cared greatly about his appearance, just bordering on vanity. He is quieter that most, thinking things through before speaking, but he is possessed of a strong sarcastic streak.

Kuja is mated to Rosalyn, a pairing that surprised many in the clan, but she loves the fact he is a closet romantic who doesn't hesitate to show his affection when they are alone. He doesn't believe in grand gestures, but he will bring her trinkets and tidbits from his battles and patrols. Zidane was one such thing he "brought back" from a patrol, eventually forming a triad with Rosalyn and Zidane. The three can often be found curled up together, Kuja protecting them both from any perceived threat to their happiness. He considers ShadowHeart one of his children, and Zidane thinks the same of HeartSong.
