▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Iris is the epitome of kindness. She is always ready to help a dragon in need, no matter what their species, background, or clan. Ever since she was a hatchling she had a certain talent in resolving conflict. She was always running around her clan, splitting up arguments between hatchlings, and, when she grew older, helping her clan's leader to make sure everyone was at peace with each other. Eventually, however, she grew tired of her old clan, and set out to find a new one, as dragons of the wind flight often do.

It was not long after her journey that she stumbled upon a strange scene at the edge of the Windswept Plateau. Before her, a huge blue guardian dragon was pacing back in forth where the ash fall wastes met the plateau. Iris walked up and softly asked what was the matter. The Guardian was startled, and he lashed out, taking a swing with one heavy paw and just barely missing the side of Iris' face. She leapt back in surprise, and cautiously peered up at the Guardian's expression, wondering if perhaps he was sorry for almost clubbing her over the head. As soon as the two dragon's eyes met, the guardian narrowed his, and growled low and long. Iris studied his face more closely, and saw that he wasn't angry, but rather, he was nervous and wary.

She sat down calmly in front of him and stated plainly, "My name is Iris, what's yours?"

The guardian seemed taken aback by her simply plopping down in front of a dragon much bigger than her who clearly wanted to be left alone. His mouth seemed to work without his brain's consent, and he said, "I'm Fletch."

"Fletch, what are you so worried about?" Iris asked him. At this, Fletch's control over himself seemed to return and he narrowed his eyes at her.

"Nothing. This doesn't concern you, get out of here." He snarled. Iris, instead of following the bigger dragon's orders, stayed right where she was. Part of her was afraid that if she stayed put, the guardian dragon would swing at her again, and this time he wouldn't miss, but she shoved those fears deep down inside and remained where she was. She saw something Fletch's eyes when they met hers, and she wanted to stick around to learn more about him.

Fletch, not knowing what to do at this point, simply huffed and returned to his pacing. He continued on like that, refusing to acknowledge Iris until well into the night. Finally, his legs seemed to betray him, and he flopped down a little ways away from Iris.

"What do you want?" He asked her, sure that such a persistent dragon must want something from him. "I'll give it to you just leave me alone."

Iris smiled, "I want to get to know you." Fletch groaned.

"No. I don't trust other dragons, especially not dragons who are so strange."

Iris wasn't offended by this, she instead walked over to the resting guardian, and sat at his side, surprisingly without protest from Fletch.

"Something happened to you in your childhood, am I right? Something bad. Did your clan leave you?" Fletch's eyes widened and he looked up at her. He wanted to be angry, but something held him back.

"How did you know that?" He asked, his voice a whisper. Iris regarded him for a moment, and then leaned in close to him, resting her head on the paw that had swiped at her earlier.

"I could see it in your eyes. Pain, nervousness. That kind of look doesn't just get there by chance." Fletch sighed. He wanted to protest this Iris trying to glean more information about him, but he found that he couldn't bear to upset her, despite their brief interaction. Iris stayed by Fletch's side all through the night, and in the morning, Fletch revealed to her his plan. He wanted to start a new clan, safe, in the Windswept Plateau, but he didn't know how to begin his new life. He had no mate with him, and no friends to help him build up a clan in a foreign land. Iris knew at that moment that this would be her new clan, right here, with a nervous guardian whose heart opened up for the kindness of a tundra dragon.
