The Trapped
Epipremnum had always considered Stark a friend. He had known him all his life, and had heard many stories from his 'sister' - how Stark had travelled with her and their many adventures together, and how he helped her bringing him back from dead. Epipremnum had always look upon Stark in admiration, so after all these years when he saw Stark again at the time of need, he was so grateful and relieved seeing Stark lending a hand that he didn't catch what Stark said at all.
Stark saved him and his sister. In return he took Epipremnum into his lair, a place where Stark called it home, and Epipremnum called it prison.
Had Stark always been like this? Epipremnum wasn't sure, but he started to doubt that everything he knew of Stark was just an illusion, a facade Stark put on to fool those around him. He knew his sister, Arcadia, had also joined this clan, but he had no idea how she's doing now. He only saw her once, a few days after the incident, Stark took him to see her in the medic bay where she was recovering from the injuries. It was also the day Stark asked for the price of saving them, and the day he lost his freedom.
There's an underlaying darkness in his otherwise cheerful and optimistic nature that he himself doesn't know about. It's only when he is alone with Stark that this hidden personality of him comes out. Stark and this dark side of Epipremnum had shared many nights in Stark's chamber while the merry-go-lucky Epipremnum slept in oblivion.
Where did this darkness came from? Stark had his guess that he suspects is not very far from truth. Epipremnum had died once, and his original body perished in the battlefield. His spirit was brought back to life by reborn as Stark's, and his sister Arcadia's, great grandchild. But the time he spent in the land of the dead had tainted his soul, and something had came back with him when he was born again. But the force of the living is strong and Epipremnum's nature is too persistent to break, so instead of overtaking Epipremnum's new body, this 'something' had integrated and became part of Epipremnum's soul.
It laid dormant for many years until he met Stark again and had unknowingly been lured into Stark's ploy and got trapped underwater. Though even this dark side of Epipremnum has waken, he's still no match to Stark's power, not to mention the immense prison called the Sea of A Thousand Currents. Both sides of Epipremnum, the light and the dark, had finally came to term with their situation after many futile attempts trying to break free, and are now settled down with Stark.
