▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
The story of Briar is an odd one Fletch was flying along his borders one day, not a care in the world, until he noticed something odd. There was an abandoned egg lying in the grass! When he swooped down to investigate, he found that the nest was cold, and the egg's parents long gone. Taking pity on the poor creature, he took the egg back to the clan. Iris took in the egg with her own, and watched over it for days, showing it as much affection as she would if it were her own child who had been left behind. Finally, the egg hatched, and with it came a surprise neither dragon could have expected. As the young mirror struggled to stand up and face his new world, a thicket of briars sprouted from the ground, helping him to stand. Fletch and Iris knew immediately that it was magic. Briar, named for the plant magic that he had done, grew up under the careful watch of Fletch and Iris. They knew that he was an odd mirror, for he could work his magic almost immediately after he was born. They hoped that one day, if he received the proper instruction, his powers could become a powerful asset to the clan. Briar's plans were slightly different. He was mischievous and clever, and instead of using his magic only in emergencies, he used it to help him play pranks and swipe extra food. He grew vines to trip Fletch and convinced lofty oaks to stretch out their branches a little bit farther so that Iris would smack into them when she was on patrol. It wasn't until he had used up all of his energy forming a pine tree into a crude rendition of Fletch that he realized the consequences that could come from not using magic responsibly. While he was focused on his magic, a manticore had crept up behind him. Briar realized an instant too late the danger he was in, and surely would have been killed if not for the Timber Tender that leaped out of the brush to face the beast. The guardian bear chased off the manticore, and then turned to Briar, a disappointed look on his face. Through his nature magic, Briar could converse with the Timber Tender, and learned that his name was Basko, and he had been watching Briar work his magic for some time now. The bear recognized that Briar had powerful magics, but the mirror had no idea how to use it properly. Briar was ashamed of his actions, but the Timber Tender had brought with his arrival a solution. The bear promised to teach Briar to control his magic. From that point forward, Briar and Basko trained every day, and Briar soon learned how to properly use his powers, though that doesn't mean he left behind his clever pranks! Now Briar is in charge of maintaining the living things in the territory, taking on the position of Greenskeeper and spending his time with the plants he so loves. |
