  She has never spoken about her past, always artfully dodging the question whenever it arises- always in a roundabout way, for no one has ever mustered the courage to confront her about it. Some have begun to suspect she is the daughter of a shade that reproduced with a living woman, but that is mere conjecture. Still, she is known as the Phantom within the palace, and Esper embraces the title with a sort of apathetic resignation.

She is blind, with milky white eyes that stare through and beyond the solid walls to a place beyond. Though not unkind, she is distant and quiet, difficult to connect with, and so she possesses few friends. Temperance found her in the grave sites of the Icefields, a barren stretch of misty land on the eastern border, where many fell and lay buried beneath the frozen ground. Though she cannot see through her own failing eyes, she has the gift of Sight, the ability to see in a way unlike a mortal being, and her ability to foresee events has made her a useful member of the Mage’s order.
