About
Veko is a eunuch and had his tongue cut out at a young age, as he was a slave to a cruel king. Veko spent his days teaching himself to read, although it was forbidden for a slave to read, and he taught himself to memorise the names of every slave before him to honour their memory. When he was discovered, he was beaten to death and saved by a crueller god.

Veko is a loyal ward and loves Lazal with a passion. Lazal rescued Veko from the gods that cast him aside, and as such, Veko would do anything for them.

Veko shook as he led the way through the forest, followed by the small figure of a young girl. He felt filthy, and so disgusted with himself.

He held her small hand in his large one, and he shivered again. "Where we goin' mister?" The little girl asked, skipping happily. Tears swelled up in his eyes as he glanced at the small kid. Of course, he said nothing in reply.

When had his life meant more to him than the life of a child? When had he decided he was above other lives?

Veko let go of her hand, shoving her violently back the way they had come, pointing urgently. The girl flinched away as Veko stomped his foot close to her small body, and she scrambled away, running.

Veko was screwed. But he had done the right thing. He smiled, and rubbed the tears from his eyes. Just as the last spark of hope dwindled, a figure stepped from the shadows, their head of fire lighting the dim forest.

Let's go, a voice sounded in his head, Rowe was remarkably easy to convince, especially as you are... Damaged, was the word they used. I will warn you, the job I'm offering may be worse than death.

Veko stared at the figure, scars and brightly haunted eyes burning into him. He shivered, but the pull was hard to resist.

Rest might be nice.

And yet, his feet moved before his mind could, and he followed the figure on, granting them his life.
