Biography

BLACKTHORN, the daydreamer.

This insomniac imperial followed the north star away from his lair, and now he's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, he'd really appreciate it if you could just return his home lair (glacevoleur #55776), or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here.

Each night, he flies to the tallest tree, settles into the highest branch, and waits for the sun to set. Each night, he counts the stars, tracing lines with his claw between the brightest of them.

He always goes alone, save for his familiar clinging to his mane. It's not because he doesn't enjoy others company-- they just don't see the stars the same way he does. He tried bringing Ixtab with him once, but she couldn't seem to find the patterns and maps in the sky that he could.

Blackthorn waits there until daybreak. The inhabitants of the forest below have grown used to his presence there. A brave few creatures venture upwards towards his perch to settle under his wings and rest. He doesn't mind. He often doesn't notice. The faraway lights hold his attention until warm sunbeams begin to wake up the world. Only then does he get up, stretch his limbs, return home, and write.

He knows each constellation by heart, memorized each of their migration patterns through the seasons. One day, he tells himself, he'll pick the brightest one and follow it to the edge of the world. He'll meet it where the sky meets the earth and hold the starlight in his hands.

He falls asleep dreaming about how it'll feel against his chest, each twinkle and glimmer sending another wave of warmth and love and light through his body.

"I'll meet you there," he whispers to the night. "I can't wait to meet you."

The stars wink.

Blackthorn spread his vast golden wings out and flew, reaching out to the stars. He found nothing up there. The stars were too far away. He flew up and up until his wings started to burn and his lungs hurt(dragons are not abiotic, they have organs and cells, its just heightened by magic. They can't do everything). He didn't believe that they were unreachable, but that he was simply not ready.
Blackthorn landed in the plague land. This was about as far from the stars as one could get, but he needed to refuel.

Then, he met Osiris. She was not a star, but she was something similar. She wasn't beautiful, but she was amazing, the way she carried herself. She was like a star in that way. She was something that Blackthorn had to have. He spook to her, he was a beautiful and ancient, she was young and foolish. The ragdoll was so in his star-stained hands. After the children were born and her lineage from his blood, Blackthorn left.

She was star-touched like him, but was Osiris a real star? No. He didn't need to keep any promises. He's stared at the flames for so long that the light had burned his eyes and left stains on his hands

He isn't stupid; he can bear the cost.

Blackthorn flew tirelessly, following the glimmers of the starlight above him every night. When his flight landed him near the city of Highkeep, he doesn't really remember the purple Pearlcatcher offering him a place to rest for the day.

But she reappeared the following evening, taking a seat beside the Imperial at the city's highest peak. The silence that fell between them was peaceful, before she chose to break it.

"What is it that you are searching for?" She asked, lifting her head up towards the cluster of stars he was staring at. When he did not respond, she repeated the question.

"I seek the path created by the brightest constellation in the sky." He murmured, but offered no further explanation.

Her ear flicked in response, her gaze shifting to now look up at Blackthorn.

"Kaden in town knows a lot about the stars, perhaps you could pay him a visit tomorrow evening." She suggested, rising to her feet before descending back down to the city.

But Blackthorn had little time for conversation, his wings stretching to once more take for the starlit skies.
