For a while, her birthclan tolerated her obsession, though her tendency to “recover” owned artifacts frequently embroiled them in interclan disputes. But one day she took things too far when she snuck uninvited to the Fortress of Ends, home of the Icewarden himself. She hadn’t intended on stealing anything – even she was not so foolish to steal from a god. But she was sure that there had to be unimaginable treasures frozen deep within. After all, the Southern Icefield had begun to form in the first age. But the Icewarden didn’t take kindly to her intrusion. She was lucky not to be frozen inside for the rest of eternity. But she was banished from her homeland. Her wanderings took her far and wide. She spent some time in the Observatory of the Starfall Isles, the Arcanist being much more lenient about visitors, as long as they didn’t disturb his studies. After that, she spent several months in the Sunbeam Ruins, one of the best places for archeological study. She was even about to settle down and join a clan there when she heard about a rare treasure she just couldn’t pass up. Someone in the Wind flight had discovered a fully intact, second age statue covered in writing. She just knew she had to have it and left without a word to anyone. The statue proved almost disappointingly easy to steal. She was heading back to the Observatory to see if there were any books in the collections there to help her translate the statue. But on her way, fellow Coatl and thief Venik took her precious statue for his own. He was harder to track down, but she eventually found him. As they were about to come to blows, the original owner of the statue found them. They managed to elude him, but only by teaming up. After this experience, the two discovered a mutual attraction. They had both lived for so long without a true home, and without companionship. They decided to stay together and wound up joining the Wind clan OverFen. Jalane still pursues her studies of the second age, but only through legitimate means. Well, mostly. |
