Known only by fearsome reputation, the Coatl Vesuvius cannot return to his former life without being recognized as the Destroyer. It makes social interactions an unnecessary arduous task.

On a humid day with the sun high in the sky, bearing harshly on the ground below, The Ashfall Waste, Vesuvius slept undisturbed, hidden by dust and stones. He carried with him a Lightning Runestone, gifted to him by his dear mother. It had remained dormant for most of his journey. But as Vesuvius laid down for a nap, the dragon suffered an ambush of Mirrors, hellbent on stealing his prized possession. Vesuvius fought tooth and nail, but the smaller, quicker dragons quickly overwhelmed him, unknowingly furnacing his fury, and the Runestone glowed brighter. Vesuvius roared, and a surge of blinding white lightning erupted from the skies, vanquishing not only the band of mirrors, but also the entire landscape. Vesuvius awoke surrounded by the flames of his outburst, and as the dust settled, only volcanic ash and pumice remained. Not a single flower or blade of grass survived the disaster... the dragons in the nearby lairs turned to dust.

Vesuvius was the oldest of a clutch of four. However, the sons and daughters of the lovely Regillus and Regalia bear a striking resemblance to each other, and at times, Vesuvius is mistaken for one of his many siblings. It is a blessing and a curse for the dragons. It is not uncommon for the clutch to be mistaken for the Destroyer. Vesuvius fled from the nest in a desperate attempt to distance himself, and leave before the mistaken identities bring trouble for his brothers and sisters. Social pressures from older dragons and hatred from the younger dragons left him cold and distant. He fled to make name for himself, driven by a thirst for power and wealth.

Vesuvius fled from one region to another. In leaving The Shifting Expanse, he stumbled upon the Starfall Isles where he encountered his mate Pompeii, who hailed from the Sea of a Thousand Currents. Together, they stopped running from their pasts and settled in the Isles. It was here they decided to begin a nest after so many failures plaguing them from an earlier life.

Though an arcane lair welcomed the Coatls with friendly faces, Vesuvius quickly exerted his dominance as a stronger dragon, forcing his weight on the smaller dragons, and overpowering the larger dragons with his hidden power to wrought chaos and destruction. The source of his power can be credited to the Lightning Runestone.

While aware of dislike from the rest of the lair, none dared to question his power. Vesuvius may rule as a cruel and ruthless clan leader, but the efficiency keeps all the dragons fed and healthy. He is first to attack any outsider if they do not flee in terror from sighting alone. If undisturbed, Vesuvius remains dormant, and allows the lair to act freely as they did before, living among them as a shadowed presence. From his first nest with Pompeii on the Starfall Isles hatched a clutch of two, Petrichor the Gentle and Apocalypse the Eager. Vesuvius allows his sons to guide the lair whilst he rests, lost in slumber. Together, Petrichor and Apocalypse guide the lair with a steady hand, balanced by each other's company.

In his old age, the dragon's fear of his reign coming to an end manifested. The whispers and rumors of a coup d'etat unfolded into reality. Try as he might to vanquish all thoughts of insurgency, the lair overruled him, and exiled Vesuvius and Pompeii.
