“A little bird told me you would be stopping by.”
The day Belnan was born was a most unusual one. Rain stopped and started. A lighting bolt came down from a clear blue sky and struck just inches from the nest. Sandstorms would come at random. Some thought the world was about to come to an end. But the moment little hatchling Belnan peeked his head out of his egg, that all ceased. From the start, Belnan was different from the other hatchlings. First, he was blind. He could not see a thing and his eyes bore a soft milky blue. Unlike his siblings, the young hatchling did not want to wrestle. He merely observed with his other four senses. The adults would often catch him with his eyes closed, slowly and almost unnoticeably rocking back and forth. He soon became alienated from his nest, but that did not bother Belnan. No, for whenever he closed his eyes and began his rocking, he was up in the air, soaring through the skies. Or he was swimming deep in the ocean where even the sunlight could not reach. But mostly, he was on top a mountain overlooking all of creation. He could look around a little and he would often catch glances of someone beside him. |
He once told his parents of this experience, and they passed it off as mere dreams. But Belnan knew better. He knew these were no dreams, but rather him seeing the world, actually seeing it. How, he didn’t know, and he was determined to find out. So once he reached adulthood, and against his parents’ wishes, he set out to discover how this was all possible. He visited many shamans, wizards, witches, and mages. None could give an explanation but all agreed these were no dreams. It wasn’t until he came across a certain spiral dragon that he was able to receive his answer: Belnan was a prophet. A prophet that did not predict the future through foresight, but rather by being able to observe every aspect of the present. Under the guidance of this dragon, or what others would call a rather long and tiring game, Belnan grew to master his abilities. Through this same Spiral, whom Belnan decided to call Djinn as he would not give his name unless Belnan guessed it, Belnan was also able to find a clan that would not seek to abuse this special ability. Belnan and this Djinn of his see each other often, as ‘Djinn’ is often looking for someone to play with and Belnan is more than happy to give a helping claw in that aspect. One might even call what they have a friendship. In his current clan, Belnan is seen as a guiding light that steers other in the right direction. Seacrest, the leader of CrestHaven, is often seen conversing with Belnan in order to seek out others in need of a safe place to sleep. |
