AIKOR ; fancy title etc. ______________________________________________________ Having been born into a family of travelling apothecaries, Aikor grew up around the many ingredients and equipment essential to the trade. Expected to learn the ropes and one day take over the business, his parents were anxious that he not only be talented but also interested in the subject. They were therefore massively relieved when he demonstrated his avidity from a young age. However, their relief slowly became concern. Day after day, Aikor shut himself in the workroom, choosing the scales and cauldrons over the calls of his playmates without fail. Indeed, his equipment had become as familiar and dear to him as his former friends had been before his passion so overwhelmingly consumed him. He became quieter, more withdrawn; when coaxed out of the workroom, he was still mentally locked behind a door in his mind where he dreamed and puzzled over his valued potions. But he also seemed happier; happier than they had ever seen him before. It was a subdued sort of happiness that became clear if you observed him, labouring with the beakers and tinctures. A sort of happiness that made him shine whenever he was invited to talk about what he was working on, the only time he would stop and speak. It was on one of these occasions that he caught the attention of a particular curious, purple Bogsneak. Her genuine delight in his rambling and her inclination for questioning the how’s and why’s drew them to each other, so much so that they would spend hours on end together, discussing and debating with fervour. Soon enough, Aikor started to struggle with the confines of the standard apothecary’s handbook; he burnt with the desire to push the boundaries, to see just how far he could go. Thus, the arguments began. His parents simply couldn’t understand his ambitions. They pleaded with him to stick to their usual orders and prayed he wouldn’t stray further. After all, this was all they had known for their whole lives and all they thought they would ever have to know. Yet Aikor refused to back down and, of course, he had Myrra’s support. To obtain the freedom he wanted, he saw only one solution; leave his parents, who had loved and raised him, and pursue his own path. | x |
