Biography

Eboniath

Head of the Clinic | Healer

The oldest healer of the Misfortune Clinic, Eboniath is naturally at the head. She commands the nurses, daycare workers and other healers, and works closely with Scorpion and his band of guards to keep them and their patients safe from any harm. She can be very strict, to the point that her mere presence can make others snap to attention. Her clinic is organized, tidy, and most of all - free and open to all dragons, regardless of status, element, lair or clan. She even extends help towards the Dead Zone, though Weyr rarely needs the help, Pestilence at least appreciates the kindness he and his receive from the clinic staff.

When not working directly with a patient, Eboniath can be found tending to a small garden of medicinal herbs and flowers; these she harvests, dries and uses in potions, ointments and salves to heal wounds and ease pain. You can see them hanging from her wings on sunny days.

Before she came to Misfortune, she lived a lonely and nomadic life out in the Southern Icefield. Eventually she left her homeland and traveled Sornieth, finding herself the apprentice of a healer not long after. She worked under many an elder, learning from passing healers, mages, witches, botanists - she listened to stories of battle from war hardened dragons and she poured over dusty tomes of medicine and magic, until she once again went back to a nomadic lifestyle, though she did not keep her tent to the Southern Icefield this time. This was actually how she met Scorpion, a young but bold and honorable Guardian, wandering in the Tangled Wood. Together they traveled together, eventually picking up others until their little caravan was woken by two strangers. One a female Tundra, the other a young, male Wildclaw.

Injured the Tundra was, barely able to stand on her feet, and her companion was begging for help to get back to their clan. He couldn't carry her, his wings simply were not strong enough. And of course, that ragtag group of healers would never say no. So they put her up on Scorpion's back and flew as fast as their wings could carry them, to the clan of Misfortune, where they discovered that the Wildclaw was Tasmos, the son of an Obelisk, and that the Tundra was Aodh, a young witch that he had grown close to as they were close in age.

Relieved to get the young dragons back in one piece, it was actually Hallowed that recommended they stay with the clan. Scorpion had made a comment that that had never worked out well for him or her, but the idea of having a homebase appealed to the others. Even so, Eboniath was cautious and asked for time to consider such a move. Halliwell told them to go ahead and find somewhere comfortable, make dens if they wanted to, or stay with the Nomads until they made their choice.

After quite a few nights of fights, talks, and compromise it was Scorpion that took Eboniath aside.

"I know you want to stay." The Guardian didn't even look at the coatl, his dark eyes staring out over the sleeping clan. He knew what her answer would be. While she wanted to stay, while she wanted the comfort of a stable home, he knew she loved him too much to make him stay, and if he left so would she.

"I'll go with you wherever you roam. Home is with the group, with you, after all." But oh, she sounded so sad about that. She was born a nomad, had never had a real home before, but wanted one. He'd been made a nomad, banished from a home that never wanted him. He'd made a promise to never get attached like that again, never let something like that ever hurt him again, but here he was giving that same hurt to someone he claimed to care about.

"I don't want to roam."

"...what do you mean?"

"I mean...I want to stay. With you. In this clan, or the next one, I'll stay if you stay. You're my rock, and to leave you behind or break your heart by making you leave...I think it would kill me."

"...but you hate not traveling -"

"And I hate hurting you more. Do you want to stay?" Again, he knew the answer, but he wanted to hear it from her directly. He wanted to hear her say the words, hear her confirm what he thought was happening behind those pale, but warm eyes.

"I want a home. It doesn't have to be this clan, we could make our own if you want. But I want to settle down, and to build a den and have a garden and be able to sleep next to you knowing we don't have to get up and pack everything away and leave in the morning." She shook her head, sighing so hard he could see the feathers of her chest ruffle. "I want to build a life with you, and we can't do that on the road. I know this...I know this is hard for you -"

"It's not, actually." He could've laughed, really. Because he realized, listening to her talk about a life with him, that it wasn't hard at all. Wherever this stubborn, kind, and stern coatl was he wanted to be there too. "I'm staying. You want a garden? I'll grow you a garden. You want a den? I'll build you one. Just...one request?"

"Anything for you."

"One night a week, we go out, anywhere you want to go, and we sleep under the stars. Just you and me?"

"...make it two nights and you got a deal."

Scorpion kept his promise, and he built them a den and a garden, and then with help from the others, they built a healer's den. They built the Clinic.
