xxxx Dusk's parents never meant to have the eggs in the Tangled Wood, so far from home, far from the beautifully lit and star-marked Observatory. But, they knew they had no choice. Reanne could tell the eggs were coming, and soon; they would never make it back to the Starfall Isles in time. Without much choice, the two anxious soon-to-be parents searched the Tangled Wood, hoping to find a Clan that might let them stay to hatch their nest, even with the erratic preparation for the Trickmurk Circus. Thankfully, they did find one in the form of a small Clan in the Driftwood Drag, and there the Clan gave them room to safely hatch their nest.

The time when the five eggs were due to hatch, something strange and peculiar happened; a whisper, ethereal and dark, enveloped them all. The parents watched in amazement as, one by one, the eggs began to hatch. But, one of the eggs, right when it was about to hatch, was enveloped in a dark, purple smoke. When it cleared, Rodion and Reanne gasped; the egg had the mark of the Shadowbinder glowing onto it. Before they could even wonder what it meant, the egg wiggled, and breaking the mark straight through the middle, it hatched; the head of a small, blue Imperial poked through, blinking up innocently at it's astonished parents, with beautiful purple eyes.

Everyone in the Clan was astounded by this event; what could it mean? As they talked among themselves, an elder of the Clan stepped forward, silencing the small crowd. Phyloxus looked down at the small hatchling as it struggled to rid itself of the remnants of it's shell.

"This... has been prophesied for a millennia..." The older Fae began. Rodion and Reanne glanced at each other before glancing down at their small, ignorant dragonet.

"I have heard this prophecy that has been passed down through out all of Sornieth for generations, but it has almost all but disappeared with the sands of time. It has been prophesied for a thousand years that, over the course of a single year, the Great Eleven will choose their champions who will heed to their Call; it is known only as The Calling," Phyloxus stated.

"The Calling? What... what could the Shadowbinder have called our son for? We're not native to the Tangled Wood; we simply came here for work and were forced to have our nest here. If it wasn't for that we would have had it at home in the Starfall Isles," the two parents explained. The older Fae shook her head as she continued to study the hatchling as he moved towards his other four siblings.

"I believe it was destined to happen; why, I do not know. All I can tell you is that, when those who have been Chosen are Called, they must heed the Calling. The Shadowbinder will Call upon him when the time is right; for now, it is best if you raise him unaware of his status as one of the Chosen. But, do not fail to prepare him, for only The Eleven know what destiny has in store for him," Phyloxus counseled the two, who both agreed that was for the best for the time being.

"When the time is right, then we will tell him; but, for now, let us raise him as a normal Dragon, for when he is Called, he will no longer be able to be one..." Rodion explained, and Reanne agreed as she looked back at her blessed - or cursed - hatchling.

"Dusk, where are you? You are going to miss your lessons!" The Coatl called. Getting no response, the long-time mother sighed as she got up from her research notes and went towards one of the rooms of the Observatory. "Dusk, can you hear me? It's time for lessons, and you want to eat before you go or you'll be hungry all day!"

Inside the room, the Imperial just sighed, rolling his eyes; 'lessons', how he despised the words. He shut his book on Warriors and Physical Combat. Even though he was raised within the halls of the Observatory, his heart longed for something less 'magic' and 'star' related and more... adventurous and death-defying, like the stories of great heroes he read as a hatchling.

His eyes, reminiscent of when he was hatched in the Tangled Wood, also showed his affinity to the place, no, to ANY place that wasn't this tower. For all his life, he's been stuck there, not allowed to leave, even after several of his siblings died from a sickness that came a few years back. More than that, however, he found it extremely frustrating that his lone surviving brother, though far more proficient for magic then he, was allowed to travel back to the Tangled Wood for 'further studies'. And there Dusk was, sitting in the same room he's been in all his life.

Sighing at the unfairness of it all, he placed the book on the shelf and left the room to prepare for the day's lessons.
