Godwin

Godwin was a child of nothing. Bred to be sold; bred to make money. She was not treated poorly; no one in the hatchery was. Godwin wanted more. She wanted to see the world and learn things no one had thought of learning. She wanted to be a dragon that would hear "When will she be back? When will we hear a new story? Godwin, Godwin!". She aspired to be this great traveler and so she set out, just under a week old. She saw many things but something was missing; something she couldn't place...
"O me, O my! You seem quite lost; do you need some help?"

Startled, Godwin proclaimed, "I didn't think so! Now you mention it, somethings not right. You don't mind... listening to my problem? You seem wise; a sage may even bow to you..."

"Just call me Ma'am," the dragon stated with confidence. Then she continued, "thank you so kindly for your words; me, sage? Barely! I don't mind listening to your troubles, young traveler. Though, in exchange, you will tell me a story from your great travels. Do we have a deal?"

"Yes, I think so!" Godwin went on to tell of her beautiful travels from yonder. Then went into what she had been feeling.

"Dear child! This is simple! You long family and a place to call your own!"

"Pardon?!" Godwin was baffled by her remark. "I... I don't understand."

"You have a family? A place you know you can lay in a nest to sleep? A clan? What are you anyway? Why aren't you in your homeland?" Ma'am asked; she knew all the answers, so Godwin couldn't lie,

"I have a family; I do not know them. I have never met them, I left before I was even a week old. I go from place to place, I have no nest; I am a traveler, as you know. My clan? You mean these lands? I know there are certain dragons that belong to one land, I belong to all. My home was lost when I left; I said before, I have no homeland." Godwin feared she was out of line by the look on Ma'am's face.

"You are under the protection of Windsinger. Windsinger has let your wind spirit fly, knowing you will find your way home. You belong with the wind. Your spirit is strong, this is why you seek to roam and have great adventures," Ma'am was content with her answer but added, "maybe try going home?"

"Isn't the Windswept Plateau quite far? We are in the far north of The Viridian Labyrinth, are we not?"

"You have traveled everywhere, how could this be too far?"
