The Guarding Dark is a spirit born from pure willpower. It is partially bound to the Rift, slightly limiting its power. Its role is to watch the watchmen, ensuring that justice is fairly enacted, that those who make others suffer are punished, and that no person it watches harms those that they are meant to protect- including their quarry. While its powers are weakened outside of Paradox, it is able to place a fragment of its power into its champions, the detectives of Paradox. This fragment is able to develop into an inner watcher blooming from the willpower of the champion, guarding them from outside mental influences and keeping them from misusing their own power. Currently, its only champion is Juno. It does not seem to care much that Juno is currently a member of a crime family, so long as he tries to help people to the best of his ability.

While the Thieves Guild is reasonably wary around it, it generally does not mind them. Some of the thieves with more selfish motives will occasionally get a glare from it, but its job is not to deal with those who break laws, but with those who are meant to uphold them.
