Arina got into a lot of trouble as a hatchling because she wouldn’t stop fighting. She wasn’t very good at it but she kept coming back for more, hoping that if she just fought she would get better at it. She would challenge both other hatchlings and adult dragons and often had to be scolded and dragged away from fights by her mother, Maura.

She idolized the fighter dragons in the clan, running to the gates to greet them every time they returned home from a battle or a hunt. As she grew up she realized the job wasn't as simple as she had thought it was but she still kept the admiration for the fighters and dreamed of joining their ranks some day.

Her father taught her what combat he could, but he had other duties to attend to and so could never spend as much time teaching her as Arina would have liked.

She was a member of the original Lightning clan lead by Maura and, when the clan's lair was destroyed and they had to relocate, Arina considered not going with them. In the end, she decided she couldn't leave her family behind and left for the Sunbeam Ruins with them - but it was a close decision.

Now, Arina's glad she made the choice to stay.

She was selected as one of Cassia's few students - an event that didn't delight her father, as he often disagrees with Cassia and his decision to only teach a select few. Despite his feud with the trainer, he reluctantly gave Arina his blessing to receive the lessons, knowing Cassia could give her what he couldn't.

Arina works incredibly hard and takes her lessons and feedback seriously. She feels a little guilty for accepting Cassia's offer of training when she suspects her father would have rather she'd told Cassia to get lost, but she knows tutorage from him is what she needs to get to where she wants to be.

She has convinced Daegan to allow her to serve as a trained guard for gathering parties leaving the clan grounds.
