Eros came from a devout family of mages: both his parents were moon children, and they named him after his similarly Arcane-inclined grandfather. Though expectations were high, he happily fulfilled them, heading off to a school in the Astrolodome to further his learning. He thrived there, both intellectually and socially, finding a group of friends that supported and accepted him (which was especially welcome as his sense of gender identity evolved). However, as time went on, he found himself becoming oddly lonely—he tried not to care about it, but the romantic inside him pined for a dragon he could fall in love and grow old with. While studying in one of the more archaic sections of the library, he came across a love charm, a topic which unsurprisingly hadn't been in their syllabus. Curious, he tucked it away for safe-keeping. He mentioned it to his friends later that evening, which sparked a drunken discussion of who they'd charm if they could. The group eventually settled on Rose, a fellow student who'd recently had her break as a romance novelist. As the night went on, his friends urged him to try the spell—at best, it wouldn't work, at worst, he'd have a devoted (and rich) mate for life! What could go wrong? As thoughts of dying alone swirled through his tipsy mind, he cast the spell. He woke up the next morning with a pounding headache, and a smiling fae knocking on his door. She introduced herself as Rose, and announced that she was in love with him. At first he tried to avoid her, deeply ashamed of having tampered with another dragon's mind for selfish reasons. Then, as the love letters and bouquets piled high, he began to frantically research counterspells. His grades began to slip, as he spent more and more time in the archives, trying to track down a way to undo it. All the while, Rose trailed after him, starry-eyed and overflowing with poetry. Finally, he decided to drop out, taking Rose with him, to travel the Starfall Isles in search of a talented mage to lift the spell. Two things became clear over time. The first was that his lack of experience with magic, rather than making the spell weaker, had just made it clumsy. As a result, Rose was prone to dizzy spells, memory loss, and a general dazedness that was especially unnerving during her frequent love confessions. Eros felt sick with self-loathing. The second was that, during her periods of clarity, Rose was surprisingly charming. She continued writing her novels as they travelled, and the two of them could talk about the plots and characters for hours. To his frustration, Eros found himself starting to fall for Rose. Now he continues researching a way to break the curse, half enjoying his time in Rose's affections, half hating himself for the context they're in.
