Biography

Born in a brilliant shower of sparks and slime, Blush's hatching nearly blew up her clan's upside-down ship home. She was one of Plague heritage, so while Arcane eggs have been known to cause extensive damage, none expected so much from a Plagueling. In fact, it took Starbrite and several other mages an entire one week to stop the onslaught of slime monsters from declaring mutiny and taking over their ship. Blush claims not to remember the slime monsters: she did not order them as one would a minion, nor did she have any memory of them.

She might want to remember chortling, "ONWARDS, MY MINIONS," as she led the slime monsters through the lair is probably not the best piece of evidence she has going for her.

Like the rest of Amson's family, Blush's egg was tampered with, and so she was born not like other hatchlings. From the moment she opened her eyes, she knew the things around her, and her mind was as sharp as a blade. She spoke in complete sentences, which terrified anyone who wasn't Lestat or Amson, and she was completely fine with mooching food off her clanmates anytime, anywhere. Those who were there during her hatchling days will assert that turning around and suddenly finding a small newborn munching on your meal is almost up there with Lestat's stealth skills on the Terror Metre. Some dragons still have nightmares.

Blush is one of the first dragons to have hatched in the clan, so of course her birth caused much need for celebration. It was her clanmates' first time raising someone so small, and none of them knew exactly what to do. They read stories to her, told her of the Sornieth lore, of the gods, and the battles and wars of the past. Blush, being practical, normally slept through these sessions, then woke up and asked, "Could you repeat that?" just as her storyteller reached the ending.

Assumably, the story-telling didn't go on for long, and her clanmates decided that perhaps they should raise her the Arcane way. So instead of burying her with books, they brought her outside, where she could feel the magical wind on her scales and breathe in the salty air of her home. Lestat taught her how to hunt, and Amson showed her the way with magic. And Starbrite, as bright as ever, brought her to the alchemy lab, where Blush found her touch for alchemy.

Depending on which dragon you ask, this discovery was either the most fortunate thing that had ever happened, or the most unfortunate. For while the science of What Makes Things Go Boom kept Blush occupied, the clan was almost destroyed by haywire experiments three times in two days.

It was during her experiments that Blush discovered her powers over magical slime. While yes, the onslaught of slime monsters at her birth had somewhat indicated her connection to this type of creature, it hadn't been confirmed, and Blush hadn't had enough interaction with her minions to know why and how they'd appeared then. But through her experiments, she found that the slime reacted to her, moved where she told it to, and changed colours as she wished. She found that she could bestow life upon the gooey puddles, and order them at will. Within a matter of weeks, she'd created a new legion of slime monsters to help her around the lab.

Which, of course, led to a dragon verses slime incident, multiple explosions, a cheering Blush, and several screaming clanmates.

After that particular incident, Starbrite took Blush aside for special training. She taught Blush the evils of magic and chemistry, and warned her of her powers. At the end of her training, Starbrite sent Blush to the Observatory, hoping the Ridgeback could discover her true potential and learn to stay within the boundaries of what could be done and what should never be done.

Starbrite might want to remember next time that sending an explosion-enthusiast to a building filled with explosion-enthusiasts was probably not the best idea. Then again, considering how much more damage she caused at the Observatory, perhaps it was the correct decision, taking the clan's living environment account. At the Observatory, Blush not only discovered her true potential, she exceeded it and became the supreme overlord of all things chemical and magical. She was a slime manipulator, her peers told her, and one who could breathe life into inanimate things, as long as those things contained traces of magic.

At the Observatory, Blush grew and prospered, and soon she learned of dragons like her - the slime dragons, a breed of Plague and Arcane heritage. They were considered monsters, her peers told her, for their powers were queer, and they simply did not get along with others. The breed itself had gone extinct long ago, but samples of their blood had been left behind. Some time ago, one of the laboratories containing that blood had even been raided, her peers added, so perhaps they still existed.

It was then that Blush, who had previously thought herself lucky, finally understood what had been done to her egg, so long ago. She hadn't escaped unscathed like the others, after all. She was more like Lestat - the experiment done on her had taken effect, but she had survived, and apparently, turned into a slime monster. Or slime dragon, depending how one perceives it. She didn't mind. After all, even if she was a monster, she was a fabulous one. Plus, she had slime minions. That had to count for something.

After her stay at the Observatory was over, Blush returned to the clan, where she greeted her siblings and Amson and Starbrite, then announced that, as a full-grown dragon (despite being at least two heads shorter than Lestat), she would be taking on the position of the clan alchemist. Surprisingly (or unsurprisingly), she was given consent.

She did not threaten to fill the lair with slime if they refused her for the position. Well, actually, she did, but she's not going to admit to that anytime soon. And if you don't want to wake up with a slime monster on your head, it's best if you don't, either.

~*~*~*~

Despite being a Plague dragon, Blush is just as enthusiastic and curious as the next Arcanite. She can forever be found tinkering with something: food, apparel, even her clanmates - whatever happens to catch her interest at that time and place. Most of the time, things go well, and her clanmates leave relatively unscathed. On the occasions things don't go well, Blush has convenient hidey-holes located all over the lair to hang out in until someone fixes her newest mess.

Though she is the clan alchemist and dabbles in an unhealthy amount of chemicals, Blush is neat, organised, and has her priorities in order. Newcomers often find themselves befuddled by the fact this well-dressed, mannerly dragon is the crazed alchemist they've heard about and were told they should avoid. Having learned from previous mistakes, Blush is quick to make friends with these dragons, before they find out that, yes, she is the crazed alchemist they've heard about and should probably avoid.

Blush loves her family, and can often be found grooming her older siblings, especially Otisis. She can also be found snuggled up to Amson, who took care of her when she was young and doesn't mind getting slime all over him. Her older brother, Lestat, is constantly stressing the fact that no, she should not be around so many chemicals at the same time, and that one day she'll probably explode from a radioactive overdose. Blush doesn't listen to him. She doesn't listen to anyone. Well, unless there's food involved as a bribe. Then she's listening.

Within the clan, Blush is in charge of fixing the occasional magical mishap that springs up. (Note: Only if it's created by other dragons. If she was involved in that particular mishap, which is about ninety-seven percent of the time, then you're probably going to have to ask someone else.) She knows the majority of the magical remedies needed for an accidental third eye or extra limb, which is a relief to the dragons who don't really know what they're doing in the lab. However, Starbrite would like to remind Blush that the eyes on the Bogsneak are not for removal. She kinda likes them.

Blush does not involve herself with the clan's political affairs. Most of the time, this is because she is the clan's political affair. Blush has an unhealthy habit of testing out her newest slime creation on whatever unfortunate ship happens to be sailing past. While she's often delighted by the results, the victims aren't, and if Lestat wasn't there, she would probably be held in jail for trumped-up charges.

Which would be ineffective anyway, since Blush would probably just blow her way out. But you never know until you try.
