______ Violet smoke overflows from the cauldron in front of him. He stares intently into its depths, seeing something beyond this world.

______ Baroque spent his hatchling years in a circus, raised on deception and trickery and sleight of hand. He quickly learned not to trust his eyes and to keep a claw on his coin purse, easily picking up the illusions and card tricks performed by the adults around him. Despite the cynicism he learned from a young age, he secretly fantasized about seeing magic- true magic, the kind he had always been told wasn't real. His life as a member of the travelling circus was abruptly changed, after a mysterious stranger slipped a small object into his hand after he performed his routine magic act. The second he touched the orb, he saw impossible things. This was no trick. This was magic. When the visions faded, he looked into the crowd, the orb filled with undulating purple smoke still clutched tightly in his claws, but the stranger was gone.

______ He rededicated his life, leaving behind his family in order to search for answers to the endless burning questions this experience left him with. His journey lead him to the Starfall Isles, but the mystics he found there did not have the answers he needed. He started to become discouraged. Would he ever find someone who could help him? Finally, a wizened spiral directed him to an imperial named Hanami, who had departed the preceding month for a position in the Library of the Gilded Citadel. Upon arriving at the Library, Baroque found a trove of magical knowledge, records of spells and creatures beyond his wildest imagination. While he feared he would not be welcomed, the Library's Magic Guild gladly took him into their ranks, each member intensely interested in his orb which was unlike anything they had ever seen. His quest remains ongoing, but he has found his place within the world and others to help him on his way.
