Half-Moon Spectacles
Aneurin ran away from his home after his pearl was shattered by another pearlcatcher who was jealous of Aneurin's beauty and social standing. He managed to meticulously put most of the pieces back together and with the help of others, bind the pieces with a magic spell so that they would stay in place.

But despite their best efforts, the cracks and missing pieces were still visible and only served as a reminder that Aneurin was no longer whole, but broken, less of what he had been. After being criticized and mocked, he fled in shame.

Aneurin traveled through the Starfall Isles, crossed the Sea of a Thousand Currents and ended up in the bazaar where Ferrilata had her stall set up. In the booth next to hers, a merchant was selling crystal balls and pearls and while another pearlcatcher would be able to tell that it's not his actual pearl, he couldn't help but buy it anyway. It was close enough in size, which was unusual, that it could pass as his and he could keep his real one safely tucked away where it could receive no further damage or judgment.

Ferrilata noticed Aneurin's twitchy behavior and asked if he needed some assistance. When he quietly asked for only food and water, Ferrilata took a good look at him and tutted. "You look like you're about to kill over kiddo." She then dragged him back to Ausha and Dak after her shift was over, insisting that he rest with her clan for a night or two.

He was taken in immediately and tended to by Pleo, who puttered about murmuring things like poor underfed kids nowadays and honestly what are parents thinking before giving him something to renew his strength and then stuffed him full of food.

When they asked him how long he wanted to stay, he told them for as long as possible please to which the leaders told him he was welcome to become a member if that's what he wanted.

He found that he didn't mind the idea.

Weathered Grimoire
When he was introduced to everyone as the newest member, the fake pearl clutched to his chest, Aneurin felt his heart seize at the sight of another pearlcatcher, whose own pearl had a golden sheen.

Aneurin was jealous. For the first time in his life, someone had something he didn't.

But the dragon with eyes of plague said nothing and never brought it up even though there was no way he didn't know. But Aneurin was grateful and simply let it hang between them as an unspoken secret, partly due to fear of broaching the subject and partly because Aneurin's pride couldn't handle the topic very well.

Aneurin, due to his great love of books, was appointed as the librarian of the small and rather pathetic collection of books in the back of the lair.

It doesn't even really qualify as a library, honestly, but Aneurin is content with this. His duties as a librarian entail helping anyone who needs help finding a book, keeping everything organized, maintaining the books, and making copies of any books gifted to the clan and to preserve them for posterity's sake.

On rare occasions he can be seen re-shelving books, but that would require for others to actually read them.

He is usually found there reading or taking notes. His love for books can only be rivaled by Impa and Thore's love for causing mischief.

Which is saying a lot.

Aneurin is not very social. He prefers to be by himself and if he does have to interact with others, it's in small groups for short periods of time.

He is very opinionated and will absolutely speak his mind if he believes he is in the right or that he's been wronged somehow. This has gotten him into some heated debates with other clan members.

When he isn't arguing with them, Aneurin is wary around his new clan mates, they aren't pearlcatchers, and he definitely avoids the imperials as much as possible. He tries to put aside his species's natural hatred for them, but he still doesn't like them all that much.

He especially detests Eirwen, that shallow, know-it-all socialite.

He has no idea how Tiakken can be around any of them for longer than 30 minutes.

Tiakken muses that it's because the two are similar in some ways, but he'd never tell the other pearlcatcher that.

Because Aneurin really admires and looks up to Tiakken, he tries to give the other breeds a chance. Well most of them, anyway. Some of them he knows he'll just never like.

"Look, either pick a book, or get out. I don't have the patience to deal with someone who's just here for kicks and giggles. Either you're here for a book or you're leaving."

_____
Even Aneurin has never fully read Mihi cover to cover. The tome loves it's master and is loyal only to him, but that doesn't mean it's going to make things easy for him. Books are often shuffled into the wrong place and scrolls sorted on the incorrect shelf. It's a common sight to see the tome whizzing by, books clutched in it's feathered tail with Aneurin not far behind, yelling obscenities and curses at the infernal creature. Most don't understand why the pearlcatcher keeps the mischievous tome as his familiar. Aneurin doesn't either.
