Sanctum was born to Lan and Artorious, their second clutch. Though the family was happy, Lan had to go home to make the place suitable for their hatchlings. She didn't come back when she said she would. Artorious received a letter from Sanctum's older sister, Dewdrop, begging Artorious not to let Lan come home, as she was under great danger. But Lan, of course, had already left. Artorious and Sianadh, Sanctum's older brother, left to retrieve Lan, leaving Sanctum and his siblings alone.

Sanctum feels a little resentment for being left so alone, under the care of strangers. It wasn't until he was a teenager that his family returned for him, and by then he was too angry to accept that his mother had briefly died, and been under the shelter of a demon. He resisted any attempts of affection, wanting instead to simply be left alone. He is still pushy now with everyone else, despite being an adult.

He is afraid to get too close to anyone, and so has few friends.
