Never one to stick any specific place, Salt has found himself taking part of many of the greatest events in Algidirian history simply by chance. He came south because of the rumors of the new Kingdom being built on the ruins of something truly ancient, knowing that would cause much to be unearthed... but not volcanoes. Not armies of demons. Certainly not eldritch beings from beyond our dimension! What comes next, the Shade himself? Salt is getting way too old for this.

In his youth, Salt had always considered exaltation the great dream, much like all Faes. Who wouldn't dream of working alongside the Arcanist, finding answers to the great mysteries? But as time went on he had found his heart invested in the faded scrolls more than their contents. He would scour the libraries, trying to find tomes lost to time. Eventually his mother had come to him. "Salt, it is time for you to leave our homeland." Of course he had been stunned! She explained, "The answers that you want are not the answers of science, my son. You want to explore history more than anything." It was true. "Why can't I do that here?" She had shaken her head. "Our discoveries would be lost to time without those committed to preserving history. No. I have arranged passage to the Sunbeam Ruins for you aboard a windship."

'What?!" Despite tradition, his voice broke in shock. Cream's eyes narrowed at this break from monotony. "Our wealth affords us many things, Salt, but the ability to make you a scientist when you are a historian is not in the power of any being." For a moment the only sound in the room was the hum of the lights all around them. Then, very softly, she spoke again. "You are to be tutored by an elderly scholar who has no children. His estate shall pass to you, and with it his centuries of accrued knowledge to learn from. It is apparently normal for the students of such dragons. This particular estate is the one we send all our own research to for record keeping."

Salt had never seen her with so much emotion. The noble Lady Cream, eyes shining and frills at full display. "Mother, I... I don't know what to say." "Say yes, and be happier than you ever could be here."
