Biography
Harper
Former Clan Leader Custom Progenitor
Theme Song:
Kero Kero Bonito - Flamingo (From "Give the dragon above you a theme song thread"- suggested by PlagueBound) "I resign." |
Inadequacy. On the surface, Harper is whimsical and witty. He's good-natured, laughs at his own bad jokes, and provides for the clan. Yet he struggled with the responsibility of being clan leader. He wanted to find another partner out of happiness, not necessity. After all, he and Rosaline only had hatchlings to expand the clan. Suddenly it seemed that an influx of new dragons of all colours, species, and genes joined the clan, making their children worthless. Uneasiness. It wasn't long before his hatchlings were exalted to serve under the Windsinger. Glowing with pride, he watched them train and leave to revel in the ultimate glory. "This is excellent," he said to Rosaline, "They're so happy- can't you see?" His mate stood silently, face hidden behind her mask. He sighed in exasperation. "Please, dear. Try to smile a bit more." Managing the clan was already tough without having to deal with a moody second-in-command. In any case, his children would leave some treasure towards the clan- which they desperately needed at the moment. He felt a small pang of guilt as their children despondently bid them farewell. 'They're just nervous,' he told himself, 'It'll be fine.' The look in Rosaline's eyes told him it was not fine. Why did this have to be so difficult? The Fall From Grace. He'd thought it'd be a simple inconvenience at first- new hatchlings with no room to accommodate them. He called a clan meeting to discuss solutions. "As you may be aware," he began, "We have no space for our new hatchlings. I have called the clan together to discuss this." He looked out at the various expressions. Sagebrush looked anxious. Selene was indifferent. Jinhai and Mei had their faces buried in heavy tomes. The coatls were all huddled together trying to decipher his words. Harper let out a monotonous sigh. "We could request more lair space from the Windsinger. However, that is not good for our savings." "Not everything has to be spent on our battle team, you know," offered up Purl, "We could always focus more on the clan's lair as a whole." "I can always hit up the fairgrounds," offered Tokyo, "I'm improving a bit." Harper sighed again. 'It isn't that easy. I already put in a request for a delivery of battle stones. We'll only have just enough after payment to expand our lair. To be honest, Pascal is earning us the most treasure so far- and he can only work on certain days. It is a conundrum." Suddenly, a quiet voice piped up from the corner. "In my species, clutches should have been discussed well in advance. I am sad to see such neglect in the clan's offspring; they are our future, and should be cherished." It was the skydancer, Meredith. An uneasy silence fell over the dragons. Then Rosaline spoke up, and Harper's heart clenched. "Clan leader Harper is perhaps focused entirely on personal wealth. With your leadership thus far, can we really trust you?" Noise and shocked chatter broke out. Truce interrupted with a reasonable suggestion. "Let's all calm down. Perhaps, we should sleep over the matter, and take a vote in the morning." Harper shivered. It was going to be a long night. End of an Ephemeral Era. The next morning, they voted. Harper watched wordlessly as the stones were cast. He'd had time to think about it the night before, and felt utterly hopeless yet apathetic. The final stone was cast, and a confused chatter began. It was a draw. Did this mean Harper remained leader, or would he not? Harper roused himself. "Wait." he said. "I have not cast my stone yet." Rosaline narrowed her eyes. "So it comes to this," she laughed, "You saving your own precious title by the skin of your teeth." He stared at her in despondence. She'd loved him once, surely? He'd gradually realized the extent of his actions- ignoring her, ignoring their children-,getting rid of their children as soon as he could- was there any redemption for that? He slid his stone into the side marked 'New Clan Leader'. "I resign," he said, and took flight from the lair entrance. |
