"Hello, dear. Do you have some free time? Care for a game of Aye, Dark Overlord? Basically, everyone builds on each others excuses to improvose a reason why you're not the worst of the lot. Kinda like life, hey? Nah I'm just joking, I'm joking. It's better to shine brightly and go out like a shooting star! ... if you can go out that is... oh, nothing. So, care to play?"

Lyriel is an enigmatic wildcard and oh, does she play this fact! While everyone knows her - because if dragons hang around long enough, she makes sure they WILL know her - as the magician occasionally assisting Lloyd as first aidl staff, a few dragons know her a... little bit better than that. There are in fact very, very few dragons in the entirety of Dragonhome with a better knowledge and understanding for creating, changing and dispelling curses than Lyriel posses. She is brilliant at it, and despite her apparently young age she completely outshines the knowledge that Darkveil, Tenph and Luciferos have, put together.

Unfortunately for them, that doesn't mean she freely shares this knowledge with others. And why should she? Lyriel wouldn't trust Darkveil not to use her knowledge against her, should it benefit him to do so, any more than she would trust a blueberrys chances of returning from Hell. She's more lenient with Tenph, with whom she have shared some of her curse-dispelling magics, but Darkveil is just straight out of luck - if he needs anything from her, she will consider helping him out in exchange for adequate payment, and that is that.
What 'adequate payment' actually means is.. very unpredictable. She is at least partially motivated by her own whimsical amusement - sometimes she's happy being payed with regular old gold or massive amounts of demonic energy (Sabaton was NOT happy), other times she asked for one of her favorite bands to be invited so she could watch them live, and one time, she had Darkveil agree to have a mostly harmless little curse temporarily placed upon him, that caused rakes to randomly materialize in front of him as he walked so that he could not avoid stepping on them and get slapped in the face. Every now and then, she does it for free.

She keep a high social profile and a whole lot of dragons owe her favors, so despite her lacking an official position in the clan, she might just be its most politically infuential member. She is talkative and high-energy, the type of dragon who brings card games where ever she goes, buy people free drinks, and invites herself into other dragons conversations, enjoying a good chat about totally pointless things to make herself feel normal.

BACKSTORY

No one is quite sure where Lyriel came from, just that she showed up one day and made some kind of deal with Darkveil, got on Sirenias good side, and have pretty much been allowed to roam the festival grounds ever since. She apparently studies medicine under Lloyd, but she sure does have a lot of free time for a medical student... she spends more time playing cards with visitors than she does in the first aid room. Lloyd himself is very unsure why on Sornieth someone with many times his knowledge in medicine would ever want to pretend to be his apprentice, but she pays him enough for him to keep his mouth shut.

As for Darkveil, well Lyriel is just a frustrating enigma who apparently loves to see him miserable. She showed up out of nothing one day, just days after some very valuable old books on curse working had been snatched from his private library, and offered her services as a... curse worker.. he's suspicious as heck of the Skydancer, and he'd have her gone if only she did not have Sirenia as her protector these days. She's ridiculously useful to his cause, but there's just something about her, and that freak of nature Nocturne she calls Wilder that hangs around the mountains and watches her like he's some kind of guard animal, that just ain't right...

Lyriel couldn't care enough about him to ruffle her feathers over it. She's just looking for some interesting stuff to do with her time, seeing as she's got quite a lot of it. How long has it been, since her first lifetime? She can't even remember any more. Even to her, death has this way of making memories a bit hazy, but she recalls the end of her first lifetime if nothing else. She was born with an abnormal amount of magic in her veins, her inevitable undoing - but not before she put it all to work experimenting, researching, and maddeningly pursuing the knowledge she craved about the arcane arts. She was a court magician, employed to work on the little immortality project of some megalomaniac king. Lyriel was the magical prodigy that allowed this project to at least reach some possibilities that could be pursued as options, but the volatile magic in her system meant that she would likely not live for very long, and the king was well aware. She was worth more to him as research material than she was dead, and he betrayed her efforts by gruesomely end her life, slowly over the course of several months, in the name of science. Her internal magic was provoked, tested, controlled and splintered, until at last it gave in, exploded, and gave her a final and merciful escape from the result of his betrayal. And that should have been that.

Yet, about twenty years into her next lifetime, the memories began to return of who she had been once upon a time. Shattered memories that manifested as a form of insanity, until the process was completed over the course of several years and she remembered enough to no longer doubt who or what she actually was. This was a process that kept repeating - in her third lifetime, she had the memories of two others to deal with. It stacked.

The king was long gone by the time she decided she had to know more about what they had turned her into. She feverishly and obsessively begun to devour every inch of information on the subject of a dragons soul, curse work and energy stagnation. She spent a lifetime becoming the court magician of one of the old kings descendants only to gain access to the journals of her initial imprisonment and murder, but only vaguely guessing from them that parts of her being had been paralyzed and become unable to dissolve as it should upon her death. How to reverse that, she was clueless - she spent entire lifetimes pursuing knowledge on exactly that, and came up with nothing. She even appealed to the Arcanist, who had no answers for her.

The forgetting between her deaths was increasing with time, which was a blessing in a way - the less she remembered about the countless friends and family members, the countless selves, that she had lost, the better it was in her opinion. The forgetting took her to take to journaling her research just in case, however, and she'd jot down the personal details she did not want to forget. Some lifetimes she recorded her every day life in miniscule detail, creating a whole library just because of fear of forgetting herself - in others she didn't want to remember a thing and wrote down nothing. But the journals did ease the process of remembering that would inevitably happen in her adolescence in each new lifetime, it jogged her memory and offered some proof that she wasn't just insane - she begun stashing her journals all over Sornieth to be sought out when her newly remembered selves would begin to remember. But she had no purpose. She spent some lifetimes dedicated to the betterment of dragonkin and to helping others - others being so bored by the lack of anything new that she essentially became some kind of master villain, causing destruction for the heck of it. She has lived as kings and queens, seeking fame and glory and building kingdoms, torn those kingdoms down again, and started over. She's been slaves and slave owners, righteous defenders and low thugs, all to seek something new and not get bored out of her mind - though it didn't always work, and she spent some lifetimes wallowing in apathy.

Her current lifetime, as a Skydancer, begun as an orphan in the Wastelands. She relish all memories of childhoods, times when she is still under the illusion of normalcy and her life offers fear and learning and excitement. This was a rough one, but once the remembering is done, none of that matters to her any longer. She had the luck of being born with a perky personality this time, a curious and high energy one that took great delight in curiosity and games. That curiosity drove her outside the borders of her birth land, and she sought out her journals to satisfy that curiosity.

However, since her last visit to a stash in the Cairnstone Rest, the library had been discovered by someone tunneling into it. The library was turned into a research facility for the extermination of demons, there was an Emperor secretly sealed away in the bottom of the basement, and of all the things that could possibly be standing on top of it all was a well-visited music arena dedicated to Heavy Metal.

It was actually quite amusing! ... but she was taking her books back anyway. She used her knowledge of secret entrances that Darkveil had not found in order to snea in and take her journals back, re-stashed them somewhere secret, and then appealed to Darkveils curiosity to get her a spot among the clanmembers. She wanted to learn more about this... Emperor that they had sealed away in the basement like it was no big deal or something.
