Biography
_________ |
Vindur's mother was a firey fae. Her father was a Wind dragon, strange and delightful in his spiral-ish ways, much prone to song and to hoarding knickknacks. He would often leave the family for days on end, but nobody ever worried, because at one point or another he always came ambling back, a few extra stones strung on his necklace or a trinket or two for his hatchlings. One day, Tropic returned from one of his wayward trips with a worn mask made of fir wood and painted with red marks. An air of magic crept about the thing, and the feathers were attached to it with bells that tinkled merrily when the mask moved. This, he promised to gift to Vindur whenever she chose to leave the clan. Vindur frowned at the time, impatient to get her small paws on the beautiful mask, but she took to watching it on its shelf in their den from time to time after dinner, her curious tail swishing along the floor as she watched it. It seemed almost to possess a spirit all of its own, and sometimes Vindur thought she saw eyes peek out at her from the sockets of it. Eventually, Vindur's hereditary wanderlust got the better of her and she made the decision to leave the nest--not without thinking of the mask, of course. Her mother looked at her proudly, and Vindur thought that she would miss the heat and the raw-throated laughter of the little fae. She hugged Amber and then turned to her father with her heart beating in excitement. He grinned and set the mask over her forehead and strapped it under her jaw. Immediately Vindur felt a surge of energy ripple down her body, accompanied by laughter--faint, like it was far off from where the spiral stood. A sudden urge to dance came over her, and a fit of delighted giggles bubbled up in her chest. In that moment she felt more Wind than she ever had in her life, and she shook her head to hear the bells by her ears and leapt into the air just to feel it rush by her scales. Vindur's parents watched as she flew away on a breeze and faded into the distance of the Cloudsong, her kite-like wings blending in with the fabric of the whirring contraptions. She flew in massive loops around the various regions of Sornieth for several weeks, only touching down when she needed to eat. Clans all across the continent delighted in the young spiral, because she seemed to know stories none of them had ever heard. In truth, these stories were fables that she had picked up from her father, or from the mask which talked quietly to her as she traveled. The mask became Vindur's close companion, inhabited by a kindred spirit long passed away. Sometimes she thought perhaps it was the very spirit of the tree whose fiber had been used to make the mask--but they never bothered to speak of such things. Life was full of excitement and adventure in those times. But eventually, Vindur grew lonely, much like her father once had. She wanted a place to call home; somewhere to come back to after her journeys into unexplored territory. Somewhere to keep her possessions, and someone to buy gifts for in all the places she visited. Her flying grew listless, and she touched down very rarely for a time, because she felt no reason to speak with other dragons. It was in this state that she was found by the Huldudreki clan and lured in by the hodge-podge of different dragons there. Unlike other clans, this one recognized a wanderer's need for a home. | ________ |
