On his way to his new home in the Greatwyrm's Breach Gaiden was found and captured by the Sandstorm, even though Gaiden is a skilled warrior he was outnumbered and defeated by Areia and her crew. They didn´t know what to do with him first, they said his "fancy looks" gave away the idea that he would bear treasure, but he had none, he only had a Stag Statue for a swift journey and no more in his bag.

As time passed by the crew in the Sandstorm grew less aggresive towards Gaiden, maybe because his wealthy parents never showed up to pay for their son´s freedom. Or because Gaiden gave up on trying to escape, no one is sure. However Gaiden got his armor back and would spend less time in his cage and more time mopping or serving the captain. That does not mean that he´s trusted by the others, that just means they know he´s tired of trying to run away and does not worth as much in gold as they expected.

"The only 'captain' you have now is me" Areia said stepping between him and Tatuí "We will keep you until your rich parents bring sacks of gold or barrels of water to have their pretty son back, you will scrub the supplies room, pretty boy. You won´t see any sunlight in weeks, but it´s okay the supplies´ Dodo will keep you company"
