He’s welcoming, charming even, as he leads you into his lair. Sparkly purple things glimmer and glint from all sides, the jewels adorning his body clinking quietly, and you relax, breathing in the sweet scent of violets that perfumes the air.

He’s solicitous and kind as he prepares a meal for you, candles gleaming from every surface. There are odd purple orbs lying around. They almost seem smoky in the lavender candlelight. When you ask him about it, he laughs it off as just some trinkets he found that accent his lair perfectly, and wouldn’t you agree? Strangely, you find yourself nodding.

The meal is delicious, only helped by the saccharine scent of flowers in the thick air. He sits across from you all during dinner, keeping you entertained with witty conversation and laughter. You can’t remember the last time you’ve had this much fun. Strange, really, it should be with a dragon you know nothing about….

Your eyelids feel heavy. He sits and smiles, watching you with that same expression of genuine amusement and interest, as the utensils clatter from your claws to the table and your head droops.

You hear him stand.

An empty purple orb is in his claws; so much like the other ones you saw scattered around, all filled with smoke. Finally, you feel the weight of the silent screams.
”BE OUR GUEST BE OUR GUEST BE OUR GUEST BE OUR GUEST”
The purple glass surrounds you, and you are nothing but a wisp of smoke, trapped outside your body and in this dragon’s lair. He sets you gently down on an empty shelf. In time, you will scream with all the others.

There is, after all, a reason this dragon is named Heathen.
