Biography

Ice Subspecies: Yeti

The Yeti species were conceived during a nasty bout of sickness from the Icewarden. Not long after he and his siblings went their separate ways, the Icewarden found himself crossing part of Plaguebringer's territory in order to reach the frozen landscape Ice dragons call home. On his journey, he contracted a... cold of sorts. With each heave of his mighty chest, raw magic was embedded in the snow around him. The magic laid dormant for a long time, hidden in the coldest, most barren part of the Icefields when eventually a travelling pair of Tundra happened upon an area rife with their deity's essence. They laid their clutch, unknowingly nesting them within the epicenter of raw power. It is within these pockets of magic that Yeti are born.

These Tundras are born with a heightened sense of loyalty to the Icewarden and find themselves deep within the Icefields searching for even a glimpse of their revered God. With the Tundras horrible memory they slowly begin to forget where they are going and what they are looking for. With each passing day they become more feral and in tune with the cold barren land that surrounds them. They adapt to their environment their colors blending in with what is around them and their coats becoming thicker to withstand the extreme cold.

Tundras that search too long become filled with despair or intense bitterness/rage. Those who despair for too long eventually lose all sense of self and turn into completely primal Stone Yeti. The Stone Yeti become one with the landscape turning into ice frosted stone. Some Yeti that are unable to find the Icewarden become angry and their hearts begin to blacken. This is reflected in their coats as they turn darker and become Black Yeti. Their bitterness leaves them susceptible to the illness and they contract the very cold that created them. Black Yeti’s gain the ability to turn other Tundras into Yeti. The rare few that catch a glimpse of the Icewarden become Ice Yeti. The strong loyalty for the Icewarden remains, but they are able to go on with their lives happily searching for a new path. Their lighter natures are shown in their brighter primary coats of white, platinum, and ice.

The primary physical feature of Yeti dragons is their massive size. Yeti stand visibly taller than normal Tundra dragons, and their thick, permanent coat creates an illusion of being even larger; due to their sheer size and weight, it is believed that Yeti are incapable of flight, although they are able to glide for a short time. Instead of relying on flight, Yeti are marathon runners, capable of speeds up to 40 miles per hour. Yeti are very reserved creatures that do not have a desire to interact with others. While not unfriendly their concentration is always on their search, whether they remember what they are searching for or not. Common Yeti are nomadic, not staying in one place for long. Their layers are crude but functional. Stone Yeti have more permanent homes, such as modest burrows. Ice Yeti have grand layers carved into the ice spires that make up The Fortress of Ends. Yeti typically avoid conflict at all costs, since a clash between two of the giants would likely result in mortal injuries for both.
