Biography

| HUGO | [♫] Fog on the Moors
{ Herder | He/Him | Gay }

Hugo's parents passed when he was young, and he spent the rest of his childhood in a cramped, dysfunctional orphanage. The older children were often sent out by the matron to apprentice under anyone who would have them. When it came time for Hugo to receive a mentor, the matron paired him with a gruff old farmer by name of Caryll.

Caryll had no children and had never wed, and so he wasn't exactly well-versed in how to speak to and treat a youngster like Hugo. Hugo was shy as a boy, however, so the two got along well enough. Caryll taught Hugo the art of kulning, an ancient herding call passed down in the Sunbeam Ruins for generations, as well as how to milk, clean, and care for a variety of animals. Through him, Hugo discovered his powerful bond with animals and decided to follow in Caryll's footsteps.

Upon his coming of age, he bid the orphanage and Caryll goodbye, with promises that he would visit and write—promises he has kept to this day. Then he set out in search of a little patch of highland to call his own. His journey led him to Feldspar territory. The mountains were tall and lush with farmland, and the dragons were diverse and friendly. With the founders' blessing, he settled and built a hut high up and away from the village, where he could tend his flocks in peace.

Hugo lost his sight to Babylon not long after. Babylon was his first Dreadram, and he had no experience with such dangerous, temperamental beasts. Feeling cocky, he drew too near, and Babylon charged.

When asked why he kept Babylon, he always responds, "I got in his space. I didn't respect him. He had every right to lash out."

This, his clanmates say, perfectly encompasses Hugo's character.
