♜History

Maggie has existed for hundreds upon hundreds of years, whether she remembers it or not. She's what's spoken about in hushed whispers at night, when parents warn their children to behave. She's what lurks at the back of your mind, that itch that makes you look over shoulder. She is a legend, but she doesn't remember it. All she knows is that she's hungry. So, so hungry. And regular food doesn't cut it.

She woke up in the Plaguebringer's land, her eyes a bright and piercing crimson and as red as the blood in her veins. Maggie can barely remember her childhood

♜Notes

-Obsessed with everything that's shiny
-Bit of a kleptomaniac, but they won't steal extremely important things
-Scratch that. They won't steal things with sentimental value (they're not a jerk) (ok they might be sometimes but not on purpose), but they will definitely steal your gold. All of it. Then eat it. It's the perfect crime
-Runs black market with Violetta
-Violetta handles the customers, Maggie runs the actual operation and the front
-Concerned about Viola's mental health, but they're too scared to drive her away to say something
-Runs a gambling ring, but they also host card nights for fun with their friends. Gwen is a regular for both
-" Maggie sometimes goes outside the cave at night in order to collect shiny things for their black market. But there is also another reason... they have a secret addiction to gambling, and they are very good at it. Their luck allows them to win almost every game, and gain valuable items for their black market. " -CaucasionOvch
- There's another "" Maggie "" that lies dormant deep inside them. That Maggie is Jormungandr, an ancient, gigantic piece of Shade that originally just wanted to exist outside of the Collective for a moment, but then saw how beautiful the world was and realized it wanted to be a part of it. However, Jormungandr has literally no morals and looks like something that crawled out of your darkest nightmares so that wasn't really an option. It existed for like 5 seconds before some witch tried to blast it out of existence for eating their kid and their house, but Jormungandr was much, much stronger and all that spell really did was make it upset. Then it burned and pillaged for a while before it caught the attention of the Eleven and was sealed away deep underground. Jormungandr had to rethink its approach a little bit, and eventually settled on cutting off a piece of itself and embedding that in a fragile mind, like that of a child, so that piece can grow, fester, take over, and eventually free the rest of itself. And lo and behold, a child walks by, and Jormungandr gets to ruin another person's life.
- Maggie doesn't really realize that there's another consciousness hitching a ride in the back of her mind. In that way, Shade-possession and demon-possession differ. Demons have to take get consent and leave a physical mark as proof of their contract (typically runes) while the Shade can just snatch your body at any time if their magic and will is stronger than yours. Shades don't leave marks at first, but over time they deteriorate the host's body and warp their brain if they're overwhelmingly stronger than the victim. If the strength of a Shade matches that of the host, the host can lead a normal enough life by suppressing the Shade fragment, or they can give into the Shade and draw power from it. If the dragon is stronger than the Shade, they can't be possessed. The fragment of Jormungandr in Maggie had to be small enough to slip through the cracks of its prison, so it's barely stronger than her. It can take over while she's sleeping or give her subconscious commands/suggestions (like intrusive thoughts) while she's awake. However, Maggie does know there's something wrong with her. She's lived with the piece of Jormungandr for so long it's hard to tell where it starts and Maggie ends. She gets random violent streaks, sometimes shadows follow in her wake, animals are scared of her, and she eats almost everything she's not supposed to be able to digest- metals, gems, dirt, rocks, anything of the earth. It's getting harder for her to suppress the urges Jormungandr sends her as the fragment spreads, and sometimes the dragon next to her looks good enough to eat.
