Long, long ago, my parents made their home among the Kilwala Clan, in the domain of Lightning. They flourished there. I have many younger siblings. Our mother used to tell us the story of our ancestors, who numbered among them two with Imperial blood. She herself was called Princess in their honor. She also said that our great ancestor Lyre--my great-great-great-grandfather--the youngest of the Twenty, lives yet in the Southern Icefields as the Grandsire of one of the eldest clans.

Ice can be a cruel land. The winter winds wield snow and ice like knives. Family legend has it that we are born with these marks on us to remind us of Lyre’s courage and strength.
