Biography

Cornus

Clan Architect | Tree-Speaker
—–—–—–—–—–—–—–—–—–—–—–—–—–—–—–—–—–—–—–——–—–—–—–—–—–—–—–—
All nature dragons have a strong connection to the natural world. Cornus has a particularly strong bond with the trees of the Veridian Labyrinth. He can communicate with them. They don't have a language per se, but he can sense their thoughts and feelings, and convey his own. He says that communicating with a tree is more like music than it is like talking - you can't always take it literally, there aren't always words, and it's the emotion that gets conveyed that is the most important element.

Because of his strong connection with the trees, Cornus has taken it upon himself to become the clan's architect, helping the trees to grow in ways that help build and strengthen the clan's home. He also takes care of the trees that document the life of each hatchling born in the clan, gently and lovingly carving images from their life into their totem trees.

Cornus chose his name from the family of trees with which he always had the strongest connection - Dogwoods. Like them - or at least how he described their personalities - he is quirky, mischievous, playful, always on the lookout for fun or excitement, and very clever when caught in a sticky situation. He is hard-working (though not very ambitious), quite faithful, and genuinely kind-hearted, though he suffers from fits of melancholy when met by any dragon who treats him poorly. He is also occasionally rather noisy.

His favorite dragon in the clan is the young quirky Mirror, Sunshower. He loves how excited she gets by the simple things in life, and whenever he needs inspiration for one of his tree-carvings, he can always count on her to come up with a good anecdote to spark some creativity. The two often breed together, making dragons who are exceptionally well-tuned to the plants of the Veridian Labyrinth, very energetic, and a bit spastic.
