The Cursed Witch
Dark thoughts had always swirled in the corners of Mencie's mind, even as a hatchling. Thoughts of greed, of power, of having others bow to her whims. Sensing this malevolent nature in her, a wise dragon by the name of Omen took her in and taught her the art of magic in an attempt to guide her onto a kinder path. Mencie proved to be an able student, and for a time her lessons seemed to be working.
Then the thief arrived.
Drawn by the value of Omen's scrolls and tomes, a young coatl silently approached the collection and went to pocket some, but was stopped by the sound of a turning page and a quiet chuckle. Curious, the thief approached the sound to find Mencie, her claws resting on the pages of a foreboding book, a fascinated glint in her eyes. Despite his instincts, he introduced himself as Sink, in the hope this apprentice wouldn't attack him - a hope soon to be dashed.
Mencie gave chase, the tome firmly in hand and dark spells flying in every direction. Sink proved nimble, however, and was able to deftly evade every bolt of darkness, every curse that came his way. The chase lasted through the whole night until the dawn's light. As the light fell upon Mencie, she cried out and plummeted to the ground, her flesh singed by the sun's reaction to the uncontrolled darkness now pouring through her body. Taking pity, Sink guided her to shelter, where the two introduced each other more calmly. Despite Mencie's anger, she was swayed by Sink's silver tongue and the two were soon fast friends.
Mencie decided to abandon Omen and her lessons, satisfied with the one tome she still had. Remaining in the comfort of the shadows, they travelled the land… but neither could hunt, and started to starve. They were saved by the kindness of a passing wildclaw, who wordlessly fed them. Mencie repaid this kindness with a spell of hypnosis, "suggesting" this innocent young dragon were to follow them and provide for them. In exchange, she promised power and wealth to the wildclaw, who saw no choice but to accept. Adopting the name Innocence, he followed the two misfits, forming the group that, to this day, roam the land in the cover of darkness.
