Biography
Some would describe Ishmael as 'milquetoast.' He prefers an even keel and a steady life, rather than a life of breezy adventure. He came to Oakrest as a child, and there he became fascinated by the books and scrolls available to the scholars in the library. There, he discovered that books are safe, even when the library itself is known for its foul disposition.
Ishmael spent years ensconced within the library, building castellated ramparts from the books he was referencing, ordering and donating new volumes as necessary to follow his field of focus du jour. He learned everything he could about geography and geology and religion, though eventually all these fields bored him.
Then, he met Ayla, a young wildclaw who could trace her ancestry hither and yon, as her grandfather was her birthclan's genealogist. Ishmael was rapt with attention, hanging on her every word as she described her cousins and grandmothers (whom Ishmael had never met, despite living in the same clan for years), their lives and their accomplishments, as if 'family history' were a subject studied in school.
Ishmael took notes, though he knew he likely didn't need to. Ayla's own grandfather likely had notes on this line. And then, for the first time, Ishmael grew jealous of another's research. It was an odd feeling, and he yearned to quash it, but at the same time it was the first time in a long while he felt ... alive and driven.
Ishmael has since left Oakrest, looking for a lineage of adequate worth to chronicle. He is armed with scrolls, pens, and ink aplenty, as well as an eagerness to ferret out the answers to so many dragons' pasts. He is a bit rough around the edges when he speaks to others, but he loves the challenge involved in his research, and he hopes to help many dragons reconnect with their far-flung families.
He is bi.
