203.png 		Gaunt has a personality perfect for a Guard. He's brave, and unafraid of running headlong into battle. This has given him a fair amount of scars and wounds from rushing in, but his bravery also allowed him to rise in the ranks fairly quickly. In one of his last battles, he was injured and thus moved to his current position within the Castle instead of out in the field. He's a loyal guard, and takes his vows very seriously.

While he is loyal, Gaunt also finds it difficult to hide his sarcasm, even in front of superiors. He became known for his penchant for talking back to Royalty and those above him in rank. Gaunt isn't afraid of talking back to those he is loyal too, and won't mince his words to save their feelings.

 		Gaunt was born into a middle-class family. When he was just a boy, his mother died protecting civilians from a chimera that had managed to get into town. After that, it was just Gaunt and his father. The two of them were never close, but they loved one another in their own way. After Gaunt reached adulthood, he tried out for and was accepted into the Training Academy for Guards.

Within the Academy, Gaunt shined. He was noted as being a good soldier, and despite his habit of speaking back to his superiors, he graduated near the top of his class, and was quickly accepted as a Guard in the Capital City.

In the city, Gaunt quickly proved himself and moved up the ranks quickly. Then, one day he rushed into a fight and was injured severely in his right leg and his right eye. After a few weeks of rehabilitation and practice, he could finally put his weight on the leg, but his eye was a total loss and the medics couldn't save it. Because of this, he was moved from the field into the castle.

Gaunt worked as a Gate Guard for a very long time at the castle. He worked beneath King Look and was there when Mary seized control of the castle and kingdom. While he may have suspected foul play, his orders from the academy were clear. He was to be loyal to whomever held the throne.

He was shifted around as Mary changed up the Guard positions and fired or arrested the guards who seemed too loyal to the previous King. Finally, one day he was standing at attention when a colleague of his told him that the Queen wished to speak with him.

Mary pretended to be Shatter's friend for quite some time in order to get close to the throne. None of her words or emotions were real; the entire friendship was fabricated. Now, Mary views Shatter with a sense of disdain. Shatter wasn't strong enough to keep her crown, after all... And people who can't hold onto power aren't worthy of it.
