(Fortuneteller, seer, prophet) "..." - - - -Indie did not choose the life of an oracle; it chose her. She spent many of her early years in the observatory, learning chemistry and physics. To say she was studious would be a gross understatement; she was downright obsessed with learning about the secrets of the universe. She cursed her luck at being born a "savage" Wildclaw instead of a (supposedly) more intelligent Imperial or Pearlcatcher, and desperately practiced channeling her magic to focus on learning. One day, studying late into the evening, she grew frustrated; she threw her books across the room and shouted "Damned Arcanist! Why must you hide your knowledge from me?" As she screamed to the gods, her Arcane magic reached a fever pitch and exploded in a great ball of light, leaving her blinded. Crying, she cursed the Arcanist until she fell faint upon the floor. - - - -A vision of the Arcanist appeared before Indie. My child, he said to her, Why have you called me in vain? If it is knowledge you seek, you shall have it; but you have forsaken your faith in me, and so you shall forsake your vision; for if you want to see what lies ahead, you must be blind to what lies before. - - - -Indie awoke to a tutor calling her name, trying to rouse her. She could no longer see; her eyes were closed to the physical world, but open to the metaphysical. Smoke now seeps from her mouth, whispers of future occurrences woven in its vapors. Her brother, Meir, gave up his career and now acts as her guide and interpreter. She can tell someone's future just by hearing their voice or touching their skin; It is best to not ask her questions for which you do not want the answer, as she cannot tell a lie. |
