About
Possessing a powerful magical talent, Hecate tends to keep to herself in her small, but private section of the lair. She doesn't go out of her way to socialize, but enjoys speaking with those who seek her out. Hecate listens to their worries and fears, their joys and triumphs. Most come away from her lair feeling refreshed, their burdens lighter or their successes clear. Hecate takes great joy in all of this, stashing away secrets and whispers for a rainy day. Hecate can be kind, but she is hardly benevolent.

Early Years
In The Lost Clan where she was born, Hecate did not quite fit in. She bore the Mark of Blood upon her breast and eyes that shine crimson with magic, but unlike her clanmates there was no malice in Hecate's heart. The darkness inside her was a different sort of cruelty. Those around her had little patience to gather the worries of their enemies (and friends, Hecate is an equal opportunist) to use against them in the future. Nor the creativity to weave together the magics that turn "I worry that..." into a nagging paranoia that wears at the mind.

And so, she left.

Hecate cares not for the Stormcatcher or his servants, but there is a power in the arid desert that differs from the nests of Plague or the glaciers of Ice. She likes the crackle in the air, even if it is dry. Besides, there is water enough to be found if you know where to look, how to coax it from the rocks. And without a doubt, Hecate does. A bogsneak must have it's bog, after all, no matter how small.

Job Description
She calls herself a shaman, but doesn't argue when others call her a witch. With her skills, Hecate creates potions and trinkets for luck or health. The right bundle of herbs burnt helps one feel like they've slept all night, when hardly a wink's been had. Hecate serves as therapist when others need, all too eager to listen and nod, and offer a helpful word while the smoke, the ever present and oddly-colored smoke, draws out secrets and sins to be stored away. No one ever questions the myriad of containers on shelves all through her home. Obviously they are for work, right?

Fall of Night
Once one of the smallest factions in the Xiachren Clan, the Bringers of Night believed that the lingering dark powers of the Shade could be harnessed, and sought to exploit these for benefit of self and clan.

It couldn't last.

The surviving members of the faction scattered to the four winds. Some found themselves Seeking the Call while others fled, Hecate among them.

Joining the Cypress Clan
The shaman sought a cure for the corruption eating away at her flesh. Hecate had all the power she could want, but it wasn't content to wait upon her call, and idleness turned it against her. She consulted with every healer and crackpot claiming to have experience with the Shade's blight, going so far as to change her form so as to better contain the dark energies. Nothing worked.

It wasn't until consulting with Karna of the Cypress Clan that Hecate considered illusion magics. She found that in constantly expending energy by maintaining a mirage, the corruption ceased its steady advance.

Though still seeking the means to heal herself, Hecate is no longer in danger of being destroyed by her own power. She's since settled in with the the eclectic coven of the Cypress clan, conversing with mages of different persuasions and practices, learning and teaching together as they explore the limits of magic.
