Riptide "Rip" Kelpborne

Fisher

Brave in the face of fear, mischievous

Close friend of Zenhime

Ridgebacks don't like water.

Riptide, initially, was no different. He was born at the very edge of the Veridian Labyrinth, on the shores of the strait that separates Nature from Shadow and Light, and grew up fishing in rock pools and then from rocky promontories -- and then he spotted a shoal of delicious fish further out. At the time he was a gangly youth of a dragon, full of youthful brashness. It could have gone wrong, but he didn't spare a thought for that as he steeled himself and took to the water in pursuit of the shoal of delicious fish.

Over time, he learned to use his enormous wings to trap them, and after picking up the art of making nets from an old fishing Coatl that lived not too far off, he began to bring enough to feed not only himself, but all the others who lived along the shore also. He taught his dear friend and fellow Ridgeback, Zenhime, until the two of them were spending most of the day floating, relaxed, in the water, occasionally diving for a delicious morsel if they spotted one, and bringing back food for the semi-familiar dragons who came down to the shore to scrape mussels off the rocks as low tide, and to pick through the rock pools for crabs and sea urchins to take back to their Clan.

Who would have thought, not just one fishing Ridgeback, but two?

And the dragons who often came down to the shore turned out to belong to a clan that lived a ways up the hill rising above the strait, looked over by a pair of very strange, very large, wary Tundras who sniffed him over, and announced that as Riptide had fed Clan, he was Clan. And so was his dearest friend, Zenhime.
