Shaunus traveled every year from his icy home to the grasslands of his ancestors as well as his mother. The Meadows are a hidden treasure, known by few and talked little of. It's an enchanting visit that Shaun would only make once a year when leaving for the Labyrinth. It was beautiful. Dewdrops, frozen on very alive greenery, dazzling in the night that they thrive in. Shaun would yearn for the trip and take the utmost pleasure in visiting the Labyrinth.
It was all of a sudden, on his 19th year, that he decided to leave the Icefields. They were visiting his relatives when he realized, this life, the world of nature, was where his heart belonged.
He still visits with his family once a year, making the flight through the Ruins, Currents, and Plateau. But he knows his true home and his true clan.
Enchanted by his father's misgiving gifts Shaunus fell in love with magic. As a hactchling, when his family traveled from their frozen tundra, he would stalk in the nighttime Shimmerdew meadows, a place that was magical on its own for the snow always melted away come sunset. He's wreak havoc on the fireflies that reside there, thinking that their mysterious, shining lights made them magical creatures so he couldn't help but want this glowing magic.
"Where does their fire come from, Father? They haven't any snouts and their wings are so strange." Shaunus wrinkled his nose, looking around at the bus in wonder.
"Stars are made of fire, Shaun. Fallen stars have blessed this species with their last dying lights. They were given to them so that they may guide lost travelers as the star who's light died once did." Shaun's eye grew ever-rounder and mouthed the word whoa.
"Why are they not warm, then?" He asked with a suspicious look. "They are cold on the outside and haven't the slightest taste of fire."
"Will you remain warm when your life leaves you, son?" his father asked as his son's face dawned comprehension though it was immediately replaced with a questioning look. "What is it?"
"Can I get star fire?"
His father's face broke into teeth-flashing laughter in the conclusion of this fond memory.
He took up the affinities of his father's magic as his own: Curses despite his icy origin. Jars of fireflies are kept in his study next to weaponry and his parchment scrolls, to both sooth stress and to learn about the different kinds of fireflies.
"I breathe fondly of those days, those when such small things delighted me so."
Although he did enjoy his magical tendencies, his duty was to protect his clan, his home. Humble and clever, he is an excellent and merciful warrior. He developed the claw-swipe flight:
A dragon lunges forward, claws out stretched, and slashes across both of the opponents thighs, or one depending on size, before leaping on top of the body and using sheer leg force to slam the opponent down. The flight part comes in once he is atop the dragon, latches on with both sets of claws and uses wing strength to fly up and flip the enemy onto his back, exposing the belly and ultimately meaning surrender.
This move requires immense strength and agility. Advanced move.
Shaunus hardly will fight to kill, for he believes, like his leader Fenjal, everyone deserves a second chance.

"fireflies blink patterns of constellations
like glow-in-the-dark stars stuck to your
bedroom ceiling. sometimes,
home is not where we expect it to be.
sometimes you know that you just have
to leave. light a candle at your own vigil,
your own funeral, then take to the sky
on trembling wings. it’s okay: you can
still visit if need be. but the future is not
certain (you never liked tellers of fortune
anyway.) so stick to your runes and
what your dusty old books tell you, words
in dead languages speaking easier
than the tongues around you. maybe
you’re just too stuck in the past-- after all,
most stars are already gone by the time
the light reaches your skies. there’s
nothing wrong with never burning bridges,
but keep the matches in your pocket
just in case."
