Biography

Cameron
of Crown Central
Choreographer-General
of the Watch

Solid, soft-spoken, agreeable

Cameron is the Choreographer-general of the Watch, and as such the commander-in-chief of all combat forces at the Tree. His authority is derived from both Parliament, as appointed representative for defense, and from the Watch Council, as elected leader by unanimous support and respect of the Choreographers of the Branch Watches.

He is a dependable, down-to-earth dragon with a slow, deep voice and careful thoughtfulness. His expression can often be compared to a mountain deep in thought. An optimist and inspiration for morale with great deliberation in his actions. Humour may escape him sometimes but he tries to be nice. While not as adept at aerial combat as some others, he prefers to organize and strategize rather than be in the thick of battle. As an earth dragon, he has some earth-working proficiency, able to move moderate quantities of earth, including creating moderate tunnels, walls, and fissures. These skills contribute to his fairly strong ground offensive and defensive abilities.

As Choreographer-general, Cameron often stays at the tree to coordinate significant activities and handle strategic planning and administrata. He is a frequent presence at the Observation Halo at the tree, the nerve centre for all dragon operations and communications, when he is not off-duty or attending to organizational or parliamentary matters at the Secretariat. In day-to-day peacetime operations, he trusts his fellow choreographers greatly and favours delegation short of abdication so long as things are running smoothly.

The Watch

Si vis pacem, para bellum.

The Watch is an order of skilled warriors at the tree who stand ready to defend the Tree and fellow dragons. In peacetime, the Watch conducts training exercises in many scenarios of offense and defense, aids the Rybs in instructing trainees, patrols throughout the surrounding oceans and wild landscapes within a large area of influence around the tree, and rescues injured or orphaned dragons for rehabilitation at the Tree. They also form or join gathering and training flights for forays into beast-held territory.

Each branch has their own Watch units, led by an elected senior leader who holds the position of Choreographer. This leader works closely with his company to manage and organize dragons into smaller groups and teams for routine operations, coordinate between the team leaders, or lead the entire company as a unified unit in a major offensive or defensive. The Choreographers are in turn members of the Watch Council, within which they elect a leader among them to be the Choreographer-general, the strategic coordinator and director for all watch dragons at the tree, who is then confirmed by the Tree's governing body by a two-thirds majority of Parliament representatives. The position of Choreographer-general is one based on respect, leadership and strategic ability.

For tasks such as patrols, Watch dragons form into groups known as Flights, as small as three or as large as a dozen. Often Watch dragons choose to form a flight with familiar faces, so that over time the members in each flight becomes somewhat predictable, but they are never set in stone and in certain circumstances Choreographers or Rybs may ask for certain dragons to form certain groups for special missions or reasons. The idea of Flights, however, is not limited to the Watch but a concept used by the entire tree. Tree dragons form Flights for gathering, for attending a festival, for visiting dragon clans, and so on.

The Band is an example of a flight which has stayed together since their arrival at the tree: a group of adventurers who have been through thick and thin through many realms together with a common understanding, experience and spirit. Although they have found new roles at the Tree, including joining the Watch or starting families, they are nevertheless always looking out for and helping each other, and when the need for a special flight arises, they often flock together with complimentary talents able to handle any task at hand (aka misfit mobilization moment).

In each flight, usually the most senior or otherwise the best natural leader within the group leads the flight. Decisions they make are however based on merit and agreement, and often at the behest of their branch Choreographers or Rybs in general.

Units:
3-5 = A flight/crew/squad/team of skydancers (led by a team leader)
10-15 = A squadron/company of skydancers (led by a company commander, or branch choreographer for smaller branches)
20-40 = A wing/branch/formation of skydancers (led by a senior branch choreographer)
Entire Watch = A fleet/force of skydancers (led by the choreographer-general)

Eclipse Branch is the only major branch of the tree that is unaffiliated with the watch, having a separate hierarchy. If the watch is the regular military, E Branch are the special forces. More details can be found on the page of Luna, the Guide and representative of E Branch:
