But what if... what if he didn't. What if, over decades, he wriggled away from everything that was good in his life trying to escape the weight of failure bearing down on his chest? The voices resembling his parents nagging in his ear every morning and night, reminding him of the failure, his instincts screaming FIND IT. FIND IT. Nothing Viri could say would ever be loud enough to drown those voices. He had to find it.

Instead of his Charge, he found himself reeling in the void as the only person he ever cared for sacrificed herself to save him. Forced to confront his failure and selfishness, he was himself no longer. He was filled with grief.
