Ragabash

Back in the Sea of a Thousand Currents, Ragabash was the best flier in his nest. He took pleasure in the attention that this brought him, and he took his fellow dragons' advice to become a messenger.
That was what he was most excited about when he moved to the Starfall Isles. He immediately asked Sumadia, the fiery clan leader, if he could have the job, and she said he could when he came of age. While waiting for his first job, Ragabash became friends with the other hatchlings, and discovered that he had a lot of catching up to do. Most of them were faster and stronger and more athletic than him... But mostly smarter. And who better to help him get smarter than Risa, the genius Skydancer from Light?
When he finally came of age, Ragabash enthusiastically set off to the Shifting Expanse, where his first delivery was to take place. He discovered, however, that big wings are very different from little wings, and much more difficult to maneuver. Needless to say, the letter was about a week late.
Ragabash was devastated, but he had Risa to comfort him with words he didn't really understand and, honestly, Sumadia didn't care. But really, all he has to do is learn to control his wings. Then, he'll be unstoppable!

Ragabash is a reckless little thing. He loves to invent, tinker, and in general get his claws into something with shifting gears, but he's a water dragon. Most things with gears don't work so well under water where he was born, and subsequently most things that work well in water don't work so well in the air. This can be doubly said about water dragons who have webs instead of wings, and fish scales instead of hard scales or feathers. Water dragons are born to swim, but this never satisfied Ragabash. No, he wanted to fly! So one day he crawled out of the water onto the Starfall Isles and carefully made his way into a lab. Surely, he thought, he'd find something there. Quickly he ran inside, flopping around on his webbed feet like a seal, until he got to the table and hoisted himself up. There were gears and knobs and screws and drivers and hammers and--!! Oh, everything he'd ever dreamed a workshop could be. He was absolutely giddy!! Very carefully, and quietly, he worked throughout the night inventing and playing and tinkering to his heart's content.

By morning he had made himself a set of wings and climbed up the Arcanist's tower.

"Okay, this is it!!" he cried, panting heavily as he looked down. He was really quite afraid, but he couldn't let that stop him. "Here I go! I'm-- I'm gonna fly!!" Taking a deep breath he plunged himself off the tower and over the water, flapping his wings incessently. At first it didn't work, and he knew he plummet back into the sea, but just before all was lost the wings suddenly worked! He zoomed up into the air, fast as lightning, and flew around the tower laughing with pure glee!

Well, until the Arcanist found him...
But that was alright. When the Arcanist found out he was a water dragon Ragabash was quickly placed into a lair with other extraordinary scientists in order to do great things and great work for his fellow water dragons who would also like to learn how to fly. Now Ragabash happily spends his day on the Starfall Isles tinkering and studying with happiness pushing him along.
