As the youngest of his 35 brothers and sisters, Theo was a tiny part of a very, very big family. Whilst growing up, this meant there was a lot of companionship but little else to go around. Being the very youngest made it even harder for poor Theo to get his fair share of food and toys. All of the siblings constantly vied for their parents' attention, with the bigger, older dragons usually winning. As a result of so often being overlooked, Theo became a reserved and timid dragon.

Years passed, and the oldest siblings began flying the nest. However, Flake and Indulgence, Theo's parents, still remained as busy as ever. They had learnt that the Gladekeeper required more dragons to serve in her army, and had started to spend more and more time in training. Instead of being bitter about this, young Theo greatly admired his parents. He could tell that they always worked hard in all of their endeavours and aspired to be just like them.

Flake and Indulgence, prior to commencing their preparations for exaltation, had often helped out with odd jobs at Rabot's shop. It wasn't much, but working for a few hours a week allowed them to earn enough treasure to feed and house their offspring. Having such a large family meant that taking on a full-time clan role was tough, but Rabot and Marcial understood this and helped them out as much as they could. One of Theo's fondest memories from childhood was being babysat by Marcial in the shop; whilst his parents were working outside, the cheerful Spiral let him taste all of the chocolates on display. It was amazing!

In the final few months before their departure, Theo finally got to spend some quality time with his parents. With most of his older brothers and sisters not around, he spent time learning skills from his parents that he had missed out on in his early life. Whilst he would probably never be a master hunter, he knew enough to get by. Theo relished this time, but sadly still suffered from a lack of confidence. Indulgence sensed his feelings. The evening before she and Flake left the clan, she saw her son sitting quietly alone outside. Settling down next to him and pulling him into an embrace, she apologised for not being there enough during his childhood. She promised her son that he would go far, and that she wished be would be able to find a little more self-belief, deep down inside. Theo smiled and told his mother that he would do his best.

Flake and Indulgence's exaltation was cause for a huge celebration amongst the clan; sending dragons to serve under the Gladekeeper is considered a great honour. A massive party was thrown, and all the island's residents were there, having a wonderful time. However, the whole event was very bittersweet for Theo. The day after, he found himself truly alone for what was probably the first time in his life. He set off for a walk around The Estate and decided to pass through the main village. He stopped in his tracks after seeing a large sign in Rabot's window:

    HELP WANTED
Looking for a dragon to perform some odd-jobs around the shop and
help to set up the new shipping and packing department. Enquire inside.

Theo's heart skipped a beat. This was his opportunity to make something of himself. Barely setting one foot inside the shop, he was almost bowled over by a brightly coloured Spiral.

"Oh, I knew you'd apply, dear!" Marcial fawned. Theo hadn't even a chance to open his mouth yet. "I couldn't be happier. I'd best go and take that sign down - the job's yours!"

As they say, the rest is history. Theo worked tirelessly on improving Rabot's shop, turning it into a veritable empire. Parcels of chocolate were now shipped out to even the furthest reaches of Sornieth. The Wildclaw took care of all this himself, of course - there is no chance he'd let anyone else pack those boxes and tie the ribbons on top. For once in his life, he was overjoyed by what he'd achieved.

"Thanks, mum and dad - I hope you're proud of me."
