subspecies informational guide

With their frost-touched bodies and striking black accents, these dragons are becoming more notable in story and legend throughout the world, but they started in the Southern Ice fields and came from survivors of blizzards and explorers returning from the Cloudscrape Crags. It is said that these are in fact dragons that have died in the snow and whose spirits roam the perpetually frozen Ice fields in search of company. They are not ugly, hoarfrost-covered corpses, but ethereal and beautiful spirits, and yet they are nearly ruthless in their killing of mortals. They are said appear to travelers trapped in snowstorms to lead them further astray and, when the snow clears, leave nothing but frozen corpses, sparing only those they find too beautiful or too young to die.

The most common version of this tale describes the dragons of legend as pearlcatchers, seemingly well-intentioned beings offering up their pearls as some form of comfort only for the pearl to chill and freeze the travelers in place. Skydancers, too, are mentioned, more for their grace than anything; they whip the snow into flurries akin to Icewarden’s breath with their large and glorious wings. A few tales describe quick, childlike spirits, their small frames giving the illusion of hatchlings wandering off into the unending white, luring worried parents away from their homes in a deadly search.
